The Diff is a 4HU Salisbury diff, used in both the XJS and XJ6.
The early wedges were the non-limited slip diff and the later ones (After about the time as Aframe suspension arrived) were changed to limited slip "powerlock" units.

I don't know anything about the different differential ratios though...

i been looking into it and the standard final drive ratio is 3.54:1 producing 25.4mph per 1000 rpm
the option was 3.068:1 producing 30.86 mph per 1000rpm
as first gear is a waist of time i think it could be a good upgrade for the car i just nead to no the car it came out of

ISTR seeing a diff on Ebay in the States, I think it was from an XJ6 auto and the ratio was something like 2.90:1.

Everyone should have one

You're right.
I remember from my XJ6 owning days that the diffs were down in the 2s, ratio wise, except for the 2.8 XJ6s, which were higher to allow for their comparative gutlessness, but higher revving engine.
Wheel/tyres were 205/70 x 15.
