TVR make sponsor remove name from race car.
Discussion
I am still baffled at the recent Back Home event, to why TVR's MD David Oxley pin pointed Green Star Sports Cars race car to in his words remove Mickey's main sponsor or he will have the car removed from the site. Perhaps you race lads can throw any light on the subject of sponsorship?
So how else are you supposed to describe the business then? Independant Blackpool manufactured Sports Car Specialist would stand out even more. And don't other racing teams get sponsored by indie's? It's not as if two guys and a 15 year old kid are any threat to the factory service team.

Nope. But I bet you can.
No-one takes that sort of action without reason and I'd hazard a guess you know what it is.
Seems strange .. if anyone told me to cover up wording (such as displayed there) on my car i'd tell them to eff off, it's not like it was even a factory organised day it was a tvrcc day. I can't see anything wrong there? or am i missing something like a long-standing feud between factory and indies in the blackpool area? If you're a TVR indie in Blackpool though what else do you put on your own car?
maybe the factory servicing dept *is* worried about them?
Unless there's something underhand going on things like that would just make me want to head for Green Star rather than the factory servicing dept. Might be a case of any advertising is good advertising
Unless something else surfaces it does rather appear to be Green Star 1 factory 0 at the moment ..

The Day Was organised By TVRCC, TVR and Blackpool council.
I've come across many companies that dont understand or like specialists. Infact I've even been sued by a software house as we happened to mention their product (they lost
)
in my view specialists only help a company to succeed, ok they make take some work away from them but they probably create more my putting confidence into the market that you can get work done...
I suspect it was just unfortunate, that the 350 was probably the first car he saw and had a sense of humor failure
At the end of the day I think it was an own goal by TVR, as Joolz says so at the end of the day you probably got more PR out of it so Id be tempted to let it lie, as a one off occurance.

Well, Its all starting to come together slowly via the good old land line. Today I received two telephone calls from a committee member of Sprint Magazine who has kindly taken this thread on board and has been speaking with TVR's MD David Oxley, to get an answer for his actions and to rectify any problems this subject may have. I was informed that David Oxley remarked that he dose not have any personal problems with Green Star Sports Cars but someone dose keep placing the old style Green Star bussiness card with TVR logo on his vehicle, hence his actions re-last weekend and request to remove sponsors name from Mickey Holden's race car. At this point I must state that myself and Green star know not of any of this act that has gone on with David Oxley's vehicle. On the brighter side of this matter as I have never met David Oxley in person, I am pleased to say that he has invited myself and the member of Sprint Magazine to the factory to finaly meet in person and to hopefuly put an end to this matter.

Green Star do seem to have had a 'blitzkrieg' approach to PR recently - and it does seem very odd that David gave absolutely no explanation. Without an explanation (or already knowing that I was pushing or had exceeded the limits), I would have stood my ground, as others have indicated they would.
My apologies if you genuinely had no idea what this was about and were unable to ellicit a reason from David at the time.
Andy, The reason for not standing any ground on this subject of David Oxley and Mickeys sponsor ie myself, is the fact that Green Star was involved in the set up and running of the Back Home event over that weekend. As you will know by now the weekend was a fantastic success for the TVR Car Club, TVR factory and all involved. Being a member of the TVR Car Club and working under the command for the weekend of John Mleczek,(Blackpool, RO) Richard Sails,(TVR Club Archivist)and Nick Kay,(TVR Events team) who are all personal friends of mine the news of any doings by David Oxley came to my attention via these people who also could not tell me a reason for Davids actions on the day, we all had a job to do and that would have been just one more item to deal with, so to keep the situation calm I did what was asked. I also feel now its come to light that David felt he had a valid point to make for himself and TVR that day and correctly did so. Johnny G Star.
I think it had more to do with TVR distancing itself from your saddlebags hanging over the seat of that monkey bike you were driving
Mind you Mine mustn't have looked that much better when you gave me a lift back from the overspill. Hope no one enters it in a photo caption contest.
Did the lad Burn the clutch out then John?
Neil.
