I've used Aon (as do others on PH) to insure the RS for the past 3 years and have only good things to say about them, particularly when it comes to track day cover. I've never had any hassle from an airfield day through to the Nurburgring. However having just spoken to them regarding a track day I'm attending at the weekend, they are now charging £25 per track day and the excess has lept up too £2500! The person I spoke to also said that Royal Sun Alliance who underwrite the policy are also thinking of pulling all track day cover.

I don't have a problem with paying the £25 as I see this as a fair premium for track cover (if I'd been told about it in advance, ie. when I renewed the policy), but can they effectively change your policy terms mid-policy? (more concerned about the potentially losing cover all-together than the £25 charge)

I also queried events which lasted more than one day, was the £25 per day or per event, I was told it was per event. I was also told that if I plan to attend numerous track days Aon could approach the underwriter for a annual track day cover premium (is this again not a change to my policy terms?).

Has anyone else with Aon been hit with this £25 charge and can anyone recommend another classic policy which does include track day cover.

I went with Performance Marque who advertise in Porsche Post. Their underwriters are Royal Sun Alliance. The deal I got was Track Days have a £750 excess but MUST be with the Porsche Club.

Limiting but OK with me....I intend to rent track cars with Bookatrack/The like for my other days...or take out seperate insurance if I'm really THAT keen on doing one somewhere else.

PM said they could get me a policy that was with Norwich Union that covered any track day but cost £90 a time with a 5K excess!!! Stuff that I thought.

I have to say though that getting on-track insurance at a reasonable price is getting harder just in the couple of years I've been doing it. All the best priced policies I found specifically excluded Track Days of any kind. (IAM Select, Direct Line, Amex etc).

I reckon that this is because they've cottoned on to the profits to be made and the associated risks involved...understandably.

Shortly I am sure it will be impractical to insure a valuable car for on-track use and the only alternative will be to purchase a vehicle only for the purpose (e.g. an old Caterham etc) and not to bother insuring it at all.

Frankly it does seem to be a shame...

Just checked with a work colleage and fellow PH'er as his 968CS is insured with Aon.

He was at Castle Combe last week, and was also charged £25 for the privilage but only a £1000 excess! (Could the excess be determined by the car, circuit, organiser, driver or a combination of all 4?)

I am renewing this week and had problems last year with track day cover. Last year I ended up opting for no track day cover and insuring seperately for each track day. This adds quite a bit to each track day and never covers you for a total loss unless you opt for a very high premium. This year I will try to track day cover included in the policy. But i suspect that this will only cover PCGB club days. This is fine if it was'nt for the fact that I do other track days and they are either cheaper to book in the first place or are special places like Spa and the Ring.
The writing is on the wall for Track day cover. Another few years and you will either have to risk it or buy something you won't worry to much about. I would be interested to hear what others are paying for their 964RS's at the moment. Best quote so far through Heritage £997 renewal through Peart £1127

Lemon yella,

I currently pay £678 with Aon (restricted to 5000 miles, although overseas mileage is outside this limit at a £25 premuim per trip). They do also provide track cover as detailed in my original post.

This is extremely topical

First because I am on a track day this weekend as well - Donington, Saturday, Bookatrack.

Second because I am also insured through AON and they, too, charged me £25 with a £2500 excess. Not that I plan to crash, of course, but I thought the slight extra cost well worth the peace of mind.

If they plan to abandon all track day cover.....well....bugger, I don't know what to say.

Peter,

I'm also at Donnington but on Sunday. Enjoy yourself and I don't want to see any tyre marks followed by yellow dents in the armco when I arrive on Sunday!

It'll be from some annoying Seat Leon I shoved out of the way, or something.

Or, knowing Bookatrack clientele, more likely a Punto Sporting.

Actually, according to their website, someone is taking a 2CV.

End result for my insurance. I have gone away from Peart and I am now with Performance Marque.Classic policy Premium is £660 with 6000 miles limit and no track days. I could have gone with heritage at £992 with PCGB track days included. I figured that I will probably do other track days that are'nt PCGB and would get seperate cover anyway. My renewal quote was £1120 so it's a good saving in my view. 33 yrs old BTW and also includes commuting.

Someone *did* take a 2CV. They didn't need to lift off for the corners at all.....
