I noticed a car gaining on me rapidly as I turned into my road just now. I decided that as he was so close and I tend to back into my drive I'd let him pass.

As he does so off go his lights, and he continues at about 20 up the road. Next thing he is coming out quickly with lights on.

Now, this seems suspicious behaviour to me, do I call BiB with my concerns? (I got the reg no. and style of car, but not the actual model/colour)

He probably thought you were a police officer in your VRS and was playing with you...

Or he could be following you home to steal your car keys while you are asleep. This is rife around this area just now, phone the cops just to be safe.

Perhaps he just fumbled a 'thanks' after you let him past?

It used to be very common that truckers would indicate 'thanks' after passing by flashing all the lights to off. (Now it's been replaced by the 'indicator wobble'. I'm no fan of the indicator wobble.)

People seem to be using flashes of hazards instead of the indicator wobble these days, seems to be a bit more effective

What kind of car was he in? Could he have possibly been unmarked BiB? I'll often go into 'Stealth mode' when in our Q cars, to have a quick butchers at something......

Oi Shirley !

wher does "technically" come into it? It either is or it isn`t !!
Is it an old wives tale that you can`t break the law to uphold the law?

Yes it IS illegal, and I regularly do it [HarryCallaghanMode] to catch burglars and car thieves and other scum[/HarryCallaghanMode]

Would you rather I was sat in the canteen eating doghnuts and avoiding doing my duty?

No I'd rather you did what was RIGHT than what is LEGAL. Good work. Don't let them beat you down!

Sincerely,
An approving member of the public

PS Now that you're all watched online, perhaps you'd better anonymize yourself via an anonymous proxy? Esp. admitting stuff like that?

Good luck with phoning the cops. I'm sure they'll take your concerns very seriously... wouldnt waste the cost of a call phoning them

You can "confirm" the model and colour from www.rac.co.uk/web/vehiclechecks/dvla_lookup

I'm not having a pop at you but say you were involved in an accident with mop who alleged you were driving with your lights off. What would you say? If you admitted it (and we know you would) what could the repercussions be at work?

Did that, the site said a gold 4 door, but I could have sworn it was an estate (5 door).

Not having a pop either, but I'm sure he's quite capable of not having an accident.
Presumably he doesn't do it when mop are around or at least when there is a chance of causing an accident.
