Since i got my first Tvr four months ago i have been cut up loads of times, the last was returning home in the dark when i left a round about in the right hand lane and not at great speed a very nice little punto decided to pull strait out and overtake two great big lorries so backed of and gave loads of room and when this luvley driver got in front of said lorries still in the fast lane then hit the brakes for no reason, so being the nice guy i am i just drove on.
How ever the olny reason i can find was that they never saw me exit the round about and then when i backed off they presumed i had drove right on to there boot so when they had passed hit the brakes in temper,
they missed the bonnet by less than a foot when they pulled out, And reading about all the back end shunts and the mpv that roll back on the bonnet and the cars tha just pull out in front of us i am thinking that Tvrs are so low and quick that people just dont see us
What do you think ( or are most drivers just bonkers)

Probably a bit off both, you'll find most Bikers have the same problem.
Some people just cant work out how quickly you are approaching thats if they see you at all.
With Tvr's being so low, and Especially the Griffith having such dim lights prehaps numptys just dont see us. FOG LIGHTS ON ALL ROUND ALL DAY should sort it out

This is a common problem which stems from the fact that most drivers just can't appreciate how quickly you can come up upon them - they judge your car's ability based on what they drive. In fairness sometimes I back off 'cos to most of the driving public they just can't comprehend a TVR's performance abilities.

I agree with the above. When you drive fast it's very easy to startle people when you suddenly turn up on their doorstep! They just don't see you coming and if the do, they expect you to be travelling at no more then a few more mph then them. Watch them swerve if you can pull along side. That shows how poor their awareness can be. In fact it's probably your acceleration that they aren't adapted to.

dark, rain, low to the ground, and never where you expect them to be.

people see you to 200 yards back, and then they see you again going past the next time they look, as they judge on their own experiences.

jo public just aren't ready for the monsters we unleash upon them.

as it gets lighter in the evenings people are more inclined to pull over, because they see what's behind them, and conversly i found that as things got darker people were less happy to move over for what appears to be an 'MG or something' in their mirrors. 'cos that's what we must look like if you go by the shape of the lights and the height off the ground. ( to the ill-informed/unobservant )

patience, patience.

i find it helps to remember that slowing down is good because you get to boot it again.

I think everyone on here has experienced what you have said and this happens for different reasons IMHO.

Some will pull out or drive up your a$$ to provoke a reaction because (a) they may be jealous. (b) they genuinely have not read your rapid approach(whilst NOT actually breaking the speed limit) (c) they WANT you to boot it so they can listen to that glorious roar that only TVRs make or (d) they have had a crap day at work and feel some road rage coming on.

Personally I like to believe its (c) and most of the time believe it to be so.

I OWN a TVr but I still roll down the window when one drives past and hope that he/she floors it so I can hear that wonderfull noise.

I can see what your saying about the dark and them not knowing what it is behind and agree about when they pull back in you can give it big and the wife falls for the line ( got to get out there way before they get us )And also agree about numptys that try to entice you to do all types of stunts.
But when they roll back on your bonnet as have read on this site and run into your arse when stood in trafic
i tend to think the every day drivers dont seeus because we are so small,
I went to a Audi garage for a fun drive in a tt and parked next to it in the chim, the tt looked so huge and was made to look like a bettle it was massive
i was so disapointed i did"nt even drive it and i quite like the shape of them (did ) that was when i first noticed how small (squat) TVRs are and they are still the best i am sure i must have been feeling faint wanting to take the tt for a good thrashing
Does the Boxter also look like a juganort as well next to a tiv

Yes, I have seen Boxster and Griff next to each other at Brandons. After that the Porsche is definitely no sportscar, possibly a kind of sportslorry.
That helped me very much for an easy decision.

I'm glad to hear other owners have this problem at roundabouts. I'm also convinced it's people not looking, but using their perception of speeds they are used to, rather than the speeds they can and should be seeing. BE CAREFUL out there - treat everyone as a blind numpty!!

Yes I have done the same myself. Its also nice to see other cars wind their windows down when you go past!

I was driving along a dual-carriageway from Oxford towards Swindon early last year (about a month after getting my Chimaera). I could see that the dual-carriageway ended approx 1/2 mile ahead. There were two tipper trucks trundling along one behind the other....no prob - I pulled out to overtake, when the one in front pulled over suddenly to block me making me brake VERY hard, then the second truck pulled up behind his mate preventing me from pulling in between them.
I had to slow right down and tuck in behind the second truck.
Trying hard to calm myself down, I considered passing them when the road permitted, but after their past antics I decided not to.

Its much bigger certainly. I used to have a picture of my previous Boxster S next to my Chimaera and the Boxster does look MUCH larger. Actually it isn't by much.. Length is very similar. But it is a taller car by a good bit.

I got my current bright red one partly because I thought people might see it coming! But no...you'd be amazed at the number of people on the road who completely miss the ***BRIGHT RED PORSCHE*** steaming up on them!

For the very most part people who pull out in front of you would have done it to anyone - not just sports cars - and I don't believe its even malicious most of the time.

They're just crap at driving.

The comments on here about people not expecting you accelerate as quickly as you can or perhaps corner as quickly - I agree with. They also do not expect you to be able to brake as quickly as is possible. For this reason if you get a tailgating numpty behind you always make sure your braking is long, smooth and slow.

The worst one I find is that the mumpties in the 4x4s do not expect the sports car in front to slow to walking pace to go over the fcuking speed bumps. After all they don't have to slow down at all. They get caught out by this and also very, very irritated. Some of 'em exhibit terrible road rage in my experience.

It's probably the only time they get the chance to drive over anything resembling a rough surface

Well I do have one - perhaps I should keep it in the car...you know as a sort of flag I could wave to see if they notice me then! No shades though..

I think if they see you (in any car) you should be happy ,, and as for them judging your speed dont make me laugh ,, trouble is most people just do not seem to care , and when Hooning about i would say its up to us to err on the side of caution
