....keeping seeing this term advertised on 997's, etc. What does it mean?

You can switch from "normal" to "loud mode" when you feel like it

It means the car is fitted with a switch to change the exhaust volume
from quiet to loud.

Thanks guys....is it a bit gimmicky though? Been offered a 997 C4S with such fitted.

No it's great
Shouldn't even be an option, more like a mandatory purchase.

edit: to add that it even is useful. When pulling away from home very early in the morning to go to work press quiet button and save waking the neighbours up.

No. It's a bloody good option. I am sure my neighbours would like me a lot more if I could quieten my car down when I leave the house at 6:30am
