All

I have a shiny new Mesh PC which I want to change the default IE home page on.

I have logged in as an administrator, and changed in both internet options in IE, and internet options in the control panel. However it always defaults to the Mesh homepage when I restart IE.....

This suggests a registry key or something. Anyone know where I should be looking as I really do want the BBC news site as my home page!

Cheers

Homepage settings are unique per user, so if you change it in the administrator account then log on as a different user it will be different again.

Failing that www.getfirefox.com

Firefox is a good call....

I was hoping to avoid regedit! I have already set up the users so searching for Mesh in the registry looks good,

Smells suspiciously like they've added a little proggie to stop you doing that. Try hitting it with Spybot S & D; alternativley give IE the push and grab Firefox.

It's going to be some gash or other that mesh have installed, you could use hijackthis or msconfig to find it and disable it. Remove everything from startup, reboot, change the home page the normal way, then put the startup items back again one at a time untill the homepage changes to mesh again. Then you have your culprit. or getfirefox.com

Right have tried the following:

Using Hijack this to delete the relevant registry keys - no go.
MSconfig to disable all the start up items - no go.

Now I really am scratching my head!

Start > Run > gpedit.msc

User Configuration > Security Settings > ...and I can't remember the rest but the homepage can be set somewhere in there, under important URL's or something

Hopefully this will work if Media Centre is based on XP Pro.

'fraid not.....

How frustrating is this??? I can't even change the registry keys if I set myself to be the owner of the key!!

I feel a cool froth coming on!

All sorted now - Zone labs have just released a new version of ZoneAlarm that fixes this problem.....
