Oh come on Des! I wouldn't mind an RS4 to trailer the new GT3... Then again, I'm sure it would do an even better job towing the leichtbau 964aRSe and hit 62mph a few fractions quicker

I drove one the other day at an Audi Quattro experience event - very nice sounding V8, pretty quick and stunning interior.

At 50K it's not far short of a bargain.

Is it in the same class as a 911? No way.

When pushed it understeered and screeched its tyres around a tight roundabout, and I'm convinced that on twisty roads, it would soon trail far behind my 997 C4S.

Consider the Avant version as a great practical but extremely fast family car, and it works superbly well. It is not a Sports car though, unlike the 911.

Cant drive?: You'll be quicker in an RS4

Nothing more to be said, surely?

As I said, I've tried both on the same roads, and I've no doubt I'd be quicker in my C4S.

Good! You are a PHer, after all

I dare say that for the masses the RS would prove quicker, but then the GT3 is not aimed at 'the masses'. The sad truth is that very few of those who drive cars like these either appreciate, or are able to exploit their true abilities, or even 75% thereof.....

YAWN..........

Been there seen that & got the t-shirt.

Why not buy an EVO faster than an RS4 & half the price, or a clio sport half the price again, not as fast but more fun etc etc!

I guess I was thinking about my C4S which is pretty easy to drive - a omparison with a GT3 might be different !!

Hmmmm, I tried that as well sidicks, I was amazed at the huge amount of understeer developed.
Personally the steering felt too light (as did the brakes)
The engine was superb and the handling impressive.
Not quite the utopian car Clarkson made it out to be, but very impressive nontheless.
As regards 997 C4 D V's RS4 down a twisty (ish) A road, I'm not convinced the result would be quite as clearcut as the numbers indicate. The RS4 was so well balanced and the engine is a masterpiece (if a bit muted)

Comparison with a GT3 ? one's a finely honed sports coupe the other a luxury four seater.........there is no comparison

my old (very modified) s4 was quicker than most 911's ever made and cost peanuts. throw in a wet road and you'd need a 996ttx50 to get past. i'd take an rs4 over most porsches. but a gt3? no way. not even 2 rs4's.

edited to add there is a knack to driving quatro's. if its understeering you cant drive it or its on naff suspension. setup you can drive them like an evo/subaru.

Really nice car, great engine with a fantastic soundtrack.A great alternative for those who have a family and want performance,so if bmw's just are'nt your thing then this is a great option.
As far as a straight choice between the Audi and the gt3 i don't think you'll find anyone here who would go for the Audi and lets be honest its not really in the same league now.
