Any idea what this is for. 94 Chim. Located on LHS of steering column.
Rotates 360 degrees but does nothing. I thought it may be to dim the dash lights but to no avail.

Hi Rex, I have a 95 Chim and on mine this varies the speed of the intermittent wipe between about 7 - 15 seconds. Go and have a play with the wipers to see if it does the same!?!

Cheers guys. Sorry about the picture. When I tried the link the picture was like a postage stamp. Tried to reduce download time for everyone but a crap execution of simple task.
Will try wipers tomorrow. See if they smear water every 5 or 15 seconds.

yep, it's for the intermitant wipers. twist it forwards and the wipe is about 6 seconds. Twist it back and the wipe is about every 12 seconds. Took me a while to suss it out to!!

On a similar subject, my wiper stalk has 3 positions, normal, pull forwards (for the washers) and push back (where it clicks in to place) is this just because its a unit from a car that had a rear wiper or is it actually connected to anything on a Chim??

I think its for the rear wash/wipe on the hatchback Cavalier. You could put that vacant switch to some use though - turbo boost anyone? Oil slick and smoke clouds a la Knight Rider! Passenger side ejection seat?

Can't see what the wipers are good for in the first place, might as well rub greasy rag over windscreen, maybe it's to give the formula 1 style vision full of road film and no vision, no wonder i feel tired after a good run, it's trying to keep my eyes open as wide as possible.

try some rain-x.

bit of a faff, but it gave a massive improvement in movement and action of wipers, bonus is that >50-60mph the wipers are only required on intermittant no mattter how hard it rains and then only if there is a lot of spray.

i know you may think i'm overstating the case, ( i found it hard to believe before i'd tried it ), but i thought my wipers were held together with bits of string and elastic before i started using this stuff.

i've no connection to the firm BTW.

halfords have it and also have their own-brand stuff, which a chap at work reports is also good.

best poorly fish ( 6 quid ) i ever spent.

Yes - but mine isn't working - whenever I pull up behind a Cavalier in the rain and press it, it never seems to help the poor sod's rear view...

Ha. My black twiddly thing is now a nice and shiny aluminiun twiddly thing.

But it still is between 6 and 12 secs, and doesn't do anything for the BM I'm following either

I assume you didn't get a manual with your car, because all males read the manual before admiting to not knowing something Page 8 item 18 Intermittent wiper speed control Located on the left hand side... need I say more? Rich...

I think I read on a previous post that there are no connectors fitted to the switch for this position - so can't use it anyway!
