Britcar drivers in Porsche Open
Discussion
Britcar drivers past, present - and future, figured significantly in Saturday's Bill Taylor trophy race at Brands Hatch. Mark Sumpter shared Andy Purdie's Porsche Cup machine, and took a dominant win, a lap ahead of fellow Eurotech pilot (and erstwhile Britcar partner) Pete Chambers.
Chambers battled hard with burly midlander Peter Morris, in his own GT Cup car, and Morris' regular Britcar sidekick, Uxbridge Porsche-sourcer Henry Firman, put in an impressive performance to finish fourth in the familiar gunmetal and orange 911.
Ex-Britsports regulars Simon Leighton and John Taylor had a solid first outing in their ex-Damien Faulkner Cup car, apparently purchased "in a drunken haze over a Christmas dinner in January". They will race again in the Britcar race at Donington on August 5th.
Racing is food and drink to Jean-Marc Rotseart (Head of Pepsi Cola R+D), and John Gaw (Sales Director of Walkers Crisps), and after a cautious start from the Belgian, Gaw showed a blistering turn of speed in the second half of the race, and was working towards a podium, when an opportunity to pass the Morris/Chambers battle ended in the gravel. They will be welcome additions to the Britcar field at Donington, too.
