Sat nav unit gone. Any ideas?

My E38 750il Sat nav unit has died. Its the 1st generation CD version. Apon taking it apart it one of the corners a resistor has burned out causing part of the lacquered board to melt and charred the surrounding area. Now I am willing to have-a-go but two questions. Where can I get a replacement board (cheaply) and any idea where I can get a schematic to find the route of the tracks and value of the component.

Passive components generally don't just fail on their own. The burnt out resister is indicative of a much more serious failure involving an active component which has shorted to B+ or GND.

I would say that the unit is shot and should be replaced.

Find an electronics enthusiast. By a electronics hobby mag and see if someone will have a go at it in your area for a suitable fee.

I would pick up a new unit from ebay, e.g. a MK2

I dont mind having a go at track bridging but I need to know the value of the resister. IF I change for CD to DVD sat nav do I also need to change anything else apart from the unit?

Or have you considered another unit from a salvaged motor ??
