Stock photography - what doesnt sell
Discussion
Righto... I've got a 2 examples of what we have been discussing here in the various stock threads, ie the saleability of different types of images:
Both of the wedding photos below have sold three times each, over the last 2 days.
The two flower photos below have also sold three times each but in two months rather than 2 days.
I hope that helps as a real life example of what sells, and what doesnt. Even though my 'headless horseman' wedding shots are poorly lit, people/business/lifestyle photos would appear to sell 30x better than nature shots.
They are not the best flower shots I know, but they are the best flower shots I have taken. I fully expect two "snapshots" of two different garden taps I took, to outsell each of the flower shots above.
Whilst Im posting, my best selling photo (at 27 sales On shutterstock alone) is still the sandwich
The pay here sign below has sold twice as many times as the dog. I lost count of the number of posts we've had here with dogs, and dont recall anyone having posted a pay here sign they were particularly proud of. In summary then, its a lot of work for very little reward. And our favourite shots (admitedly my dog shot pales in comparison to some of the shots others have taken) arnt necessarily going to ensure any level of success.
