...then I punched him
Discussion
Seems to be a bad week for unsavoury happenings to Phers. And the week is not getting any better.
I went out for a couple of beers last night with my Brother in Law and walked home after closing time. Its about a mile home. About a quarter of a mile from home I spotted a man behaving quite strangely on the other side of the road. He was babbling away to himself and staggering around. It didn't look like drunken staggering and I just had a sense that all was not well. I had my headset on listening to the radio on my phone so I called my wife.
While the line was open she called the police. The guy raced over the road and forced me to the ground. When I got up he pushed me into a hedge and tried to rough me up. He threw a glass bottle at me, luckily it missed. All the time he was shouting that I should F*** this and F*** that and F*** my mum and stuff. Really quite unpleasant it was. My wife was still listening to the whole thing as my phone was still on.
Anyway, those who've met me at PH events may have noticed that I'm quite partial to a pie or two and consequently I'm not exactly a small bloke. For the first time in my life I was truly grateful for my bulky frame and I really lost my temper.Something inside me just snapped. Who was this no-mark asshole giving me all this unprovoked aggro? Instead of walking away from it, as I always have done before, I turned round and gave him a hiding.
So here's the thing - anytime i've been somewhere where there's been trouble before, I've always felt a sense of desolation or forboding afterwards. Seeing violence is really not a nice thing. I saw a lot of violence in Johannesburg when I lived there, including shootings and it always unsettled me for days afterwards. But this time I feel great. I had a good night's sleep and I have no remorse after giving the tosser a good smack (oh, I'm not too proud of kicking him in the knackers when he was down). I'm not going to go looking for trouble, but I have to say that the cleansing effect of fighting back is really quite excellent.
The sad thing is, even though the police could hear all this going on via my wife's calls, they weren't able to show up. They did call later to apologise that they'd had a bad RTA to attend, but they couldn't come out to help me. I wonder if it would have been different if the guy had hit me with the bottle, or even worse, if he'd had a knife.

Yikes, glad you're OK... hope there aren't too many bruises...
I suppose you feel good, becuse you were the victim, and in the end, "won" as it were... although you haven't said if the BiB ever caught the attacker..
I was recently on the tube, and felt my phone move in my pocket.. turned round, grabbed the arm of the little tea-leaf, gave him a swift punch in the gut and took his legs away, and wrestled him to the ground - oh, and got my phone back.
I felt great! Why? Again I beleive it's because as the victom, you feel that you've administered some sort of justice.
Incidentially, the tube staff came over, sorted it out and blokey was charged...

I have to say well done. It's what they deserve. My view, if you don't want to get tw@tted, don't pick a fight with me. I would never pick fights but I won't let someone think they can get the better of me.
A bit O/T but I noticed on the cover of REVS (my brother in law's copy I must add!) an article about a car theif, how they'd caught one in the act. The idea was to see someone nicking the stereo, go and scare them a bit and wait for the police to arrive. The reality turned out to be, see someone breaking into car, go and give him a really good kicking, run off before the police come. Quite splendid really
The pictures are pretty good too. It's well worth a look, just don't let anyone see you with a copy of REVS in your hand
Oh, and there was five of them
Again, my view, if he wasn't trying to steal something, he wouldn't have got a kicking.

A good case to get down the gym and learn some martial arts; if that had been me I would have happily administered a mungoesque Muay Thai style beating.

Now't wrong wi' self defense Angus. Pity Plod didn't turn up.
Watch the bugger doesn't try to do you for assault though - remember that poor sod being burgled regularly who over-did the self defense thing and shot the thieving little w@nker? Got life didn't he? At least Plod were listening.

Well done, you did what any self respecting man should do, protect yourself, I would have done exactly the same.... you lived in SA? then I assume this is not the first time you've had to kick the spunk outta a scroat .. I remember the good old times when all out bar fights were the norm in Johannesburg, In fact as a teenager I used to go out to pubs with mates for just that reason, It was great .. men were men and woman were there to kiss the wounds better!! (in the case of being rough-nackered!)

didn't turn out for this one. It seems that they're too stretched too attend anything but life & death cases these days.

that is so out of order
