Just wondering whether or not two people with entirely seperate insurance can be legally insured on the one car? I need to use my fathers car whilst I wait to get another. Unfortunately his Insurers wont add me to the policy (accident/age etc.)

Any way around this?

Unfortunately not. Only for him to change his policy to someone more forgiving. There is no way you can have two policies on one car.

You sure? They'd be insuring different circumstances so there wouldn't be scope for duplicate claims.

Ask the insurers themselves.

Another option might be to temporarily de-insure your father, then insure you with your own policy.

If the car got stolen it could be a duplicate claim, trust me, they won't insure.

How about, transfer your dads insurance to your car, and yours to your dads, until it gets sorted.

Not sure about the actual possibilities but if you can do it the insurance companies would pay 50/50 for theft or damage whilst "unattended". But I think they do ask if the car is covered by any other policy. So it's unlikely they would agree. You normally have to be the owner or main user of the vehicle to have a policy to cover it.

You might be able to get your insurance company to cover you to drive his car as a temporary thing IE no theft cover. Like they would if it was a loaner from a garage or hire car.

Insurance policies generally have clauses saying their policy will not cover items covered by a seperate policy, in the event of a claim.

So only one claim can be legally made.
