Dunno if it's my imagination, but the oil and water temperatures on my Tamora seem to be higher since the track day on yesterday.

Maybe not higher, but they get there quicker than usual. The water is hitting high 90's, and so is the oil, with the fan cutting in more often.

I've checked the oil level, and water level in the expansion tank, and everything seems OK.

Any suggestions?

Could it be a smidge of paranoia?

That and it has been fg hot these last couple of days....

Found this with my Tuscan - the difference between say, 22 & 30 deg ambient temp. makes a huge difference in the speed the engine temps rise and the frequency with which the fans cut in.

Wouldn't worry too much about it if your fluids are up to the mark.

Probably more than just a touch ...

You're right, it has been fewkin' hot too. Guess I'm just looking for a bit of putting my mind at ease...

Had a nice little run yesterday. Water was in the low/mid 80s in open air and in top gear, but as soon as I got in slow moving traffic the temp rose and the fans kicked in if I had to stop.

If you are in the high 90s, while say travelling in 5th gear on a clear road , then I might be concerned and would keep an eye on it, otherwise as everyone says, it is a tad warm these days.

P.S Assuming you can read the display with sun overhead and shades on !

Thought I would add (and to make you feel more reassured/ less paranoid. Last night I went out on a cycle ride with my son. Lovely evening, very quiet and cool by the river. However on our way home; when we got to the main road the temp increase, even at 9pm, was very noticeable. My son commented as well and said - 'it's because there are cars around', and he was right.

So do not underestimate just how hot it is on the roads.

Cheers Steve,

Off to the beach again later (after washing off all the grime from Monday) and I'll watch exactly what's happening.

Pretty sure that on the move, the fan is off but reading the actually temperature of the oil is, as you say, a bit iffy in the sun.

I had exactly the same experience but more severe.

Day after my track run, Oil hit 90 and water 100+ in 4.5 miles of slow a-roads.

I have had perenial overheating issues and have given up on the dealer being able to fix it long term - gone to Horizonmotorsport for final resolution.

I'll update with resolution if you're interested.

Yes please, Widjit, very interested in an update. I may be being a bit paranoid, but I'm sure that it wasn't getting this hot this quick the day before the track day - when it was just as hot out.

Hope you get it resolved.

Update:

The temperature sensors are reading accurately and the flow levels are right down.

Engine out job, suspect water pump.

Blimey. Hope you get it sorted.

Do they reckon this was caused by the track day?

A track day itself won't knacker an engine. It might show up weaknesses a bit sooner than road driving though.

My headgasket went - if it hadn't done so I would have been stuck a few weeks later as we were planning a trip to Germany. You can bet the car would have received more of a workout on those mountain passes with 2 up and a boot full of luggage compared to one up on a relatively flat track.

With my limited mechanical knowledge, that's what I thought. I.e. high temps blowing gaskets or knackering pumps.

I'm still worried about mine though. Was going to take it on a 300 mile run today; as temperatures are more clement wanted to check out the heating/overheating. But as the bloody wipers are still knackered and it looks like serious rain, I'm a bit scuppered.

In what way are the wipers broken? They must be one of the more accessible components on our cars

Looks like a wiring problem. Keep blowing the fuse, even after the motor has been disconnected. Strangely, the boot courtesy light packed up at the same time (on a different fuse). When I went to change the bulb, I had to pull a length of wiring out of the panel and it started working again.

Now I admit to knowing nothing, but was wondering if the the two could be connected? Guess not, as they're on different fuses. But that's what happens when you know nothing - you sort of clutch at straws and coincidences! They're both electric, they broke at the same time; one's fixed now so the other MUST be ... sort of thing.

Hmmm. Maybe I'll whack another fuse in and see what happens...

Just done about 250 miles, mostly motorway. On the move at motorway speeds, average water temp mid 80's, oil about 80'ish.

I'm guessing that I was just being a worrying Nelly.....

Now it's just the bu66ered wipers and main-beam flasher to sort out...
