Why do they do it? My second car, my run around, was vandalised last night. It's an Alfa that I've had for several years, in A1 condition, I even have every single MOT cert for it. I parked in a side street over night, in a line of about ten other cars, the same place I often park, never had trouble before.

Got to the car this morning, there's a shopping trolley on the roof, varnish poured all over the front and rear screens and roof, contents of a vacuum cleaner emptied on to the varnish, and finally both near side tyres were flat. I tried pumping them up but discovered they had been holed with probably a screw driver.

I thought the varnish was just cooking oil at first because it was still wet, untill I tried getting it off earlier tonight, and discovered that it's actually set like glue. Any tips for removing it? I've tried soaking it in hot water and washing up liquid, then tried white spirit, but it's slow going.

I don't have any enemies that I am aware of, but this doesn't sound like random vandalism does it? None of the other cars in the row were touched.

Luckily, my weekend car is locked safely away, if it had been that I would have been mad as hell. It's still sickening though.

The sleepy, relaxed, sea side town of Burnham On Sea. You thought I was going to say Beirut?

Had many a happy holiday there. Sorry to hear what has happened to your car.

Its just a thought, but maybe the person whose house you had parked outside was peed off with you parking there?

I think Spud may have a point - it's all a bit too random that no other cars nearby were attacked.

Try and take a sample of the varnish and see what it will dissolve or become liquid in (i.e. meths, coach-paint thinners, cellulose thinners, Nitromors) and apply accordingly.

Nice Alfa, BTW - I love Alfas.

Some people are nothing more than vermin...

This is both a "planned attack" and one by someone who lives nearby...[like hoover bag nearby...!]

I wonder about mistaken identitiy....or are you in front of a muppets house...?
I would be tempted to knock on every door and see what peoples reactions are / what they have seen etc...

Sorry to hear about it..you must be mad as hell....

If person was annoyed with it parked outside house - then they sure made sure it stayed put there Anyone in road got CCTV cams? In fact - are there any cams along route from local supermarket. Someone may have pushed that trolley.

Und as MBGT suggest - take sample of the varnish. Take one sample to local DIY store who may be able to identify from smell/setting/colour und advise on how to soften as well.

Und ask neighbours if they saw/heard anything at all. Und go through all past relationships... think hard who may be an enemy who knows you love that lovely car.

Grrrrr! Makes me mad to think people like that who can do thaat to other people und their belongings.

Have you told BiB? Ist a crime ... they may be able to help with getting CCTV regarding where the trolley came from. They may even have reports of other cars being attacked too. Could be one type of car being targetted... some odd types around.

Und Liebchen.. sorry about this shock to you. Must have been unnerving to find this. Must be unnerving to think someone hates so much as well.

That does look a bit more involved than your usual wankers keying or walking past abuse to me, I take it you didn't call the coppers?

Not funny at all, they NEED to be tortured!

I would say its 2 people.

A bloke to put the shopping trolley on the roof, and a woman for the nail varnish and vacuum bag. (dont think many blokes would think about using a vacuum bag or nail varnish)

As others have said, this has been planned attack on your car - its not a mindless bad luck vandalism.

Is there anything in the vacuum rubbish like hair that may inciminate someone - ie long/short/colour/highlights?

A trolly being pushed makes a bit of a racket, ask the neighbours, any local supermarkets where the trolly could have come from, ask for cctv

call the police.

CALL THE POLICE

STRAIGHT AWAY.

It may well be mistaken ID but this was planned, and someone nearby. Who the fvck carries a hoover bag round in case they feel like vandalising a car?

Are you sure you couldn't be perceived as having done someone some sort of "disrespect.."

Agreed. This was premediated and targeted, not random thuggery.

Yes, call the police. They might be able to get a hand or finger prints from an unusual location on the car. For example, they might have lent against it in a particular way when putting the trolley on the roof. DNA sample from hairs in hoover bag?

Sorry to see the pics. Some people are complete pond life.

I suspect it is someone from one of the houses you are parked outside.

My reasoning is that generally, if someone is going to attack a car they would try and be as inconsipcuous as possible. For instance, they would slash the offside tyres so they cound hide from the view of the adjacent houses, also the hoover bag seems to have been emptied on to the car from the pavement.

If it were me, I would be knocking on their door with a big stick and asking for some clarification.

Regarding the varnish, the usual way of removing varnish is either with a heat gun and scraper, or a paint stripping compound. Its either solvent based or water based. If you pour turps over it and try to wash it off, its going to run into your engine bay and the drain holes, and you risk perishing any bits of rubber and plastic down there, not to mention the smell will linger for ages.

I would suggest that you claim on your insurance for a new windscreen.

I would definitely call the police.

If the contents of the hoover bag contain hair (which they almost certainly do) SOCO may be able to get a DNA profile and compare to those on record of local miscreants.
However, that's expensive and this crime may not warrant that sort of investigation as it would still not prove the identity of the offender.

Bad luck by the way little ers need a visit from the BwB (boys with bats) rather than BiB IMHO.

Absolutely correct.

"Sarge, got a bloke here had his nice, insured, taxed MOT'd car vandalised..."

"Oh, serves him right for being a rich get. Pass the donuts. Oh and make sure you give him a producer."

Edited to add the fect that I got hit by some pikey last week who drove off. On reporting to the police I had to fill in a 17 page form, and was then given a producer, resulting in me having to spend two hours at the p1ss soaked local nick last Saturday.
