Hey all,

Am selling my first products on Ebay, and am offering a oldish Dell laptop for sale.

I would expect to see about £100 to £200 for it on Ebay, however some chappie with only 1 feedback has written a question to me with the following:

"Hi Mate,
i saw your item on ebay while i was saerching for an item to present my son as birthday gift. Will you accept £600.00 for your item plus postage cost to Nottingham cos i need it as a matter of urgent for my precious son as his personal use. i'll be paying you via paypal. If you're okay with my offer send your paypal email account so that i can make the payment for you asap or let me know the amount you're willing to sell the item. contact me to my email: (******@yahoo.com).And also beep on my mobile no ***********. Cheers"

Surely somebody would be mad to offer this much for a laptop that isn't new?

Additionally, how does it work with Paypal? If I say pay me first, wait for the money to appear in Paypal, and then send, surely its up to Paypal should the chap then default?

Is this right?

If so then I could make a mint!

but most likely it isn't and he is trying to rip me off...

Walk away, a scam for sure.

As for paypal, when you complete a transaction through ebay, the buyer is debited from their paypal account and the money is transferred to yours. You can see it in your paypal account as soon as it goes in and you have the choice of keeping it there or getting it moved into your bank. As soon as you see it with paypal then it's yours just as with online banking so no worries there.

Neil - as with anything, if it seems to good to be true then it is.

If you can be bothered, advise him to bid on your auction or STFU.

I like the 'precious son' bit too.

Like something off Lord of the Rings

... or a stolen credit card will be used and paypal will bounce the transaction after you have sent off the lappy...
