Cheers domster will be going to Bosch service agent. but in the mean time thought i'll have a quick look myself .I have checked all hoses cleaned all elec connections and cleaned throttle enterance . When i disconnect the idle control valve there is no change in idle speed still 2000rpm but if i move the connecter about a bit i can get the revvs down to 1400rpm and stays like that. Disconnect the plug and the car drives no problem (twice around the block engine warm)put the connector back on fully and it goes back to 2000rpm Also how hard is it to remove idle control valve??any ideas cheers Richie mac

not sure on 944, but normally ICV just held in by a couple of screws

have you checked all vacuum pipes?

Hi domster yes checked all pipe work . The car was sitting on my mates drive way for 8 months with out being started or driven. When i first got it it was running very poorly just about ticking over. The mate was going to scrap the car when i took it of him hope this was a wise move on my behalf.

ICVs can suffer if left standing... maybe one to remove and check. The other thing is any cracks or splits in any 'corrugated/bellows' plastic pipework in the inlet system; they tend to crack in the 'v' and are difficult to spot.
