Just been in my Nikon shop testing out my dodgy lens (see other VR lens thread) and was trying out another D70S body.

When I popped in my CF card, I noticed that it could store nearly double the number of images in RAW format.

The shop dude told me that if I update the firmwear to the latest edition, it will give me the D70S improvements and also the new format that doubles all of my Card sizes.

Has anyone else done this and do you know where I can get it from and how to install.

Well... the firmware more accurately gauges the number of pictures remaining, though you'll still get the same number of shots.

It's available off the Nikon website directly, www.nikon.co.uk/customer_services/, go to Download Software, and search for D70 firmware updates.

Can't be correct.

I put my 512 mb card in my D70 and it gives me 47 images.

I just had the same card in a D70s and it gave me 76 images.

I was told that the new software would give me the same on my D70.

Thanks for the link. I'll have a go.

Were the quality settings different on the D70 and D70s? I mean, I found for me that when I shot with a 1GB card, I had the same number of shots before and after the firmware update, but only after I updated did it tell me the correct number of shots left.

As far as I could tell it was the same.

it was number of RAW shots remaining and there is only one raw setting. (raw + jpg makes little difference)

Def only get 47 on mine and the D70s said 76!

TBH, I have never filled up the card to the 47+ mark as I always change cards before running out, so maybe my D70 will hold 70 odd aswell but just reads 47.

Odd.

All done!!

Now I have 88 shots remaining on my 512 card and not 46!!

Also have much better menu screens and better focusing.

Greg, there was a bug in the firmware before 2.0 that miscalculated the number of pictures left in raw mode - you should now find it more accurate (off by a factor of 2 was a bit of a bug!). But I found the upgrade worth it for the clearer menus.

And I didn't think there were any dinosaurs left

Yes - just one of the benefits of the last D70 upgrade was the "I can count" function working correctly

MUCH MORE IMPORTANTLY! the upgrade was somewhat about the focussing issues of the D70

Have you tested the lens since that software upgrade!!!!!!??????

I believe mr noble tested the lens with manual and AF modes and it was consistently soft.
