…Because I had an email off my Italian boss today, asking what I thought about moving to Italy, to work ‘closer’ with him () My first thoughts were Oh my God!, how would wifey and kids take it to moving down there,,, then, I thought, ‘is there anyone who could service my Tam in Torino?’,, and would it be safe there?? I have seen the (lack of) driving skills in the city, every man (and woman!) for themselves spring to mind! But I don’t think I could sell it either! What a nightmare!!
Feel like I've been hit with a sledgehammer at the mo!!!

Difficult one that, from what I remember of Turin its a lovely City but hell on earth for any kind of motoring! remember the Italian Job? - think the last time I was there it was around the era that film was made and it was a nightmare for my dad then so god knows how bad it now! I think there definitely are some TVR dealerships in the North of Italy, seem to remember they had something to do with super charged Chimaera conversion, but not sure how near to Turin they are.

Think you need to get your priorities in order man, car comes first of course so time to find another job

I just managed Naples driving - Turin is no problem. You'd need a daily car (like the Clio) to park in town though. Just think of those lovely mountain roads nearby. If you're prepared to learn the lingo I can think of worse places to move to. Driving in summer and skiing in winter :insert skiingg smiley:

There were a few T350 owners with Italian links - Sacha and one other (begins with a b I think).

Enjoy the decision making. I reckon you need to drive down there just to check it out.

There is a place in Milan wich is about 80 miles away. IIRC his name is Vito but cannot remember the dealership name.

Will ask Mum in the morning (if I remember).

Cheers , Yes, I think I will definitely have to take a drive down there (at least it's northern Italy, just across the border from France!) Do the Alps have tunnel roads? (Have always had to fly over 3 times a year or so - never driven abroad, at all!)
Don't know what to think at the mo, part of me want's to stay here with 'what I know', but another part says it's a great chance to live somewhere very nice and have a real job for life (been going since the 1880s!), something that the UK is lacking more and more these days - and we'd all end up being bi-lingual (or, at least the kids would!)
The thought of driving the Tam up and down those mountain roads may swing it though!!

I suppose I could always have a 'Tam service holiday', and drive back to the UK once every year!

Hi,

Yep its UK Garage at Milan, but from what I have read are now moving from the center out to the 'burbs of milan (better.... easier to get to). Turin to Milan with a TVR is a quick road.

I would have kep my TVR but as Im on the otherside of Italy it would have meant a 300mile drive each time to get it serviced.

Cheers - put my mind at rest, have visited MIlan, not too far at all - in fact, it's 30 miles closer than the UK garage I used for my last service!

Crikey Chris, what an offer! There cannot be anywhere better in Europe to have a Tamora than Italy! The roads outside the towns are fantastic, with hardly any traffic, and a country completely mad on cars!! I had an absolute blast on Megahoon last year in Italy, and the Italians loved all the TVRs - although PetrolTed's Cerbera was the one that drew the most admiring stares, even from a gorgeous woman in a big Merc who nearly drove off the road staring at Dave's car! The Pagani test driver, no less, said he thought it was one of the most beautiful cars he had ever seen - the Pagani test driver!!

I am deeply, deeply envious of you - go for it, I say! Then send me your address and I'll come and visit. A lot.

Well, I emailed back and said I would have no objection (after talks with wife and kids, of course), so I'll just wait and see what happens next! gulp!
(spoke to the Tam too, and it doesn't mind too much.... )

Hi Chris,

Done quite a bit of living/working abroad and enjoyed it. Whatever you decide, all the best.

Paul

PS: Have you searched for the Italian TVR Breakdown phase book on Amazon?

BTW Chris (maddog has found out as well) there is no super unleaded in Italy - it's all bog standard unleaded, so you'll need a bit of advice from your dealer. I reckon a Tamora meet in Italy would be quite nice!

Shell had V Power the last time I was in Italy in the TVR. Also there is a higher octane flavour at Agip stations which they had at the station near Naples airport 3 weeks ago (I was filling up a rental Chevvy Matiz though, but being sad I was looking at the prices of the different flavours while filling up).

Otherwise you'll have to nip over to France. Fun, even on the autostrada/route
