Hi all. I was hoping one of you knowledgeable chaps could help me. I'm seriously considering getting an old Boxster S to replace my A4 cabriolet, but i'm concerned at the servicing costs at an OPC.

Obviously, the age of the car would mean i wouldn't need to use Porsche Newcastle which is my nearest OPC, but i wondered if anyone knew of/had experience of any good specialist in the Durham area who might help to ease the financial burden slightly?

I'm questioning my sanity in selling an 03 reg A4 for a Bosxter, but the heart says its the right thing to do!!!

Also, if there are any owners of older boxsters willing to offer any advice on running costs etc, i'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Paul

Red line are good, but generally very busy this time of year,Malton are a bit far from Teeside but its a more personalised service and there is also a place in Stockton, not sure of the name but its in the town centre.
Loads of info on here just look into the history.

I have a 2000 Boxster S I've owned for 3 years, only do around 4-5k a year milage, all services with the OPC, only thing I have had to replace so far (fingers crossed touching lots of wood) was the battery, I let it go flat once too often through lack of use now own a trickle charger and use more often!

Second vote for Malton. Been using them for a couple of years and so far excellent service and reasonable prices in the workshop.
You will enjoy the drive down there, some great roads.

How much roughly would i be looking at for servicing costs at OPC or specialist? Am i right in thinking servicing is required every year or 12k miles?

Also, am i right in thinking that you can get the Porsche warranty even though you don't have it serviced at an OPC, providing you pay £200ish for a checkup at an OPC? Obviously at this age car i'd be buying private so from reading other threads on here, i'd need to get the warranty added in this way.

I was thinking of getting a boxster a few months back, but chickened out after reading all the RMS threads, but i've now decided life's too short to worry about something like that, anything could go wrong at any time with any car, that's what a warranty's for

My local OPC seems to give free 90point (or however amount!) checks every 6 months or so to cars over 5 years old, although i assume only to those who service with them.
service costs depends if minor or major, i think 250 for minor and 750 for major, but could be very wrong, just ring your OPC and ask them for their latest rates. Go for it, you know you want to!!

Give Malton a try Paul, I bought a Boxster S there 18 months ago, amazing condition, not a single problem. However I just part-ex'd the Boxster for a stunning 996 they had in.

Great cars, great service.

Depends where you live, I'm in Redcar and it's 40 miles for me, straight over the moors.

John's a top bloke and the rest of his staff are spot on as well. Once your in with him your well looked after.

I'll give another vote for Specialist Cars Malton. They really helped me out sorting the head gasket on my old 944 between Xmas and New Year, waiting for me to drop it off when they were supposed to be closed and working til late to get it finished. Great service.

And yes another other vote for Specialistcars of Malton. Their customer service is way above any dealer I've ever come across. Prices for servicing/repairs very, very reasonable, actually more competetive than my local specialist.

John who heads up the place can never do enough for you a really top guy, wish he was my uncle then I might get a go in his new GT.

Cheers,

After Eight

Have to agree with all the above regarding Malton as I bought mine there and enjoy the great service. Only reason it wasn't my first suggestion was the request for a North East place local to Durham

Malton, there is no substitute!!!

I'll throw a spanner in the works ! I've had my 996 for 3 years now and have tried just about every specialist in the North. I've found, without doubt the best Porsche specialist is Nelson Porsche in Stockton. Minor service £180. Major £380. Thats roughly half what you'd pay at a dealer. Its not a big outfit but the guy lives and breaths Porsche. They are his passion and have been since he was a child. What he doesn't know about Porsche's, believe me isn't worth knowing and because he works on his own you know your not going to get some clueless apprentice working on your pride and joy. Another plus is his service stamp says 'Porsche' big letters 'Nelson' small, ie looks like main dealer stamp.Dont worry about running costs ! Porsche are without doubt the most reliable super cars money can buy but if they do go wrong, the parts are suprisingly reasonable. Example: pr front brake discs incl. vat,p&p OEM parts £115. Thats cheaper than they are for a Vauxhall Calibra (I know coz I used to have one). Finally - The Grange has closed down now 'thank god' as I wouldn't touch the place with barge pole.
