MAY! need a cheaper T350 - advice please
Discussion
Hi all
First a bit of background...
Due to the possibility of expanding my business into a new area I am currently cutting costs to fund my (possible) new venture. My business partner in this project has suggested downgrading our cars (A Boxster and T350T) and this is an option I am pretty unhappy about to say the least.
I have only had my current 05 plate T350T for about 5 months and am completely bitten by the TVR bug. However, if this expansion takes place it will pave the way for a new Sagaris in a few years (even with the price rise)
Now the dialema...
As you can see I have quite a catch 22 situation. One option that I can see is that I get an older T350c (doesn't have to be the Targa) and was windering if anyone can enlighten me as to what age, mileage and spec I could be looking at for around £25k - £26k.
I don't want to give up TVR ownership and see the above as the only possible option I would consider if the deal goes ahead.
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Cheers - Rippers

May I ask how much a decent warranty may cost?

App £1347 for the full TVR Approved 1 yr warranty on cars up to 5yrs of age. Add on cost of a full 100 point check (£200 or so) and the cost of any work to be done to get it to warrantiable condition and you should be there.
Hi Rippers.
I'm not sure if this would work in your favour. I'm looking for a new toy and I'm thinking of TVR/Caterham. Both are buyers markets at the moment, moreso the case for TVR. I'm still at the 'phone-negotiating stage' and already I'm amazed at the price drops being offered to move cars on. Furthermore, I reckon that I should be able to squeeze a little more out of any deal when I turn up in the flesh with cash in my pocket, but I'm in no rush and I suppose I can therefore afford to be choosy.
In any case, I reckon you would only walk away with a few grand in your pocket if you change for an older car. Add in the cost of warranty and budget for potentially higher running-costs on an older car and the profit margins shrink further still.
Of course, I may be wrong... I frequently am!

Hi Rippers
I am also with the sceptics on this plan - on paper you can sell and buy an older one for maybe 8k 'profit' (based on asking prices I've seen). But add an inspection, possible work, a warranty, and some depreciation on the new one (one extra owner) and I think you'll be loooking at more like £4-5k. If you want to sell fast you'll probably not even get the asking price, and to add further insult to the financial bad news the replacement T350 could turn out to be a bad one.
If you could afford a new one last year and your job situation is unchanged, then I suspect you could save a similar sum of money in the time it takes you to sell...

You may as well keep what you've got. Trading down to a slightly older T350C is pointless once you've factored in all the buying and selling costs.
After all, in a few months you'll have....a slightly older T350 anyway.

I agree with The Arb here. I am in the same kind of position - got a new business/investment venture and the Sagaris is going in order to release some valuable working capital. I've decided to go the whole hog and go TVR less until the new venture takes off - it will give me even more of an incentive (and time for TVR to get a supercharged car into their dealer's forecourts)
Having said that I've lived with TVRs for over 5 years so have experienced the whole shebang - At 5 months I think you could still be in the honeymoon period

Tony is a down to earth straight talking guy, who would probably take yours in P/x giving you cash back, as to how much cash you get back, well you may get a shock as these car do/and should have big margins across them
Thanks a lot for the feedback, it has been interesting reading your replies.
The general consensus of opinion seems to be that I would probably do better getting rid of my current car and getting something non TVR related for a while. Althought I don't want to lose the car, after much thought, this is a route that I feel is probably the right one for me.
However, if this should occur does anyone know if a non TVR dealership would take my car as a trade in against a much cheaper model?

It sounds a better plan - you would free up much more than you immediately need, but you could put the rest somewhere for a bit. And if the new venture needs a bit more cash, you wouldn't have to do it all again.
You and your partner could have a Top-Gear-esque "Best MX-5 for £7k" contest, have a laugh in them for a bit, and lose very little cash over a year. Then buy Sagarii if it all pans out.
Granted, from a Boster, he won't notice the performance drop...

I think you'll be lucky to even get near what the car is really worth. Any dealer will offer you a pittance, local P**sche dealr offeed me £19k for my 54 plate T350C in April, cost £35k 8 months prior!
The market is very slow at the moment and in my opinion, not the time to sell.
Can't you just keep the Tiv? It will cost you dearly to sell in real terms and you'll miss the car like mad as well

Only if you can get one with a nice RR S6 me thinks.
