Old Fart Gloves - required!!!

What a lovely day!

Admittedly I had the roof on when I took my Valentine off to the station - so nice young lady driving blue X reg Griff (did you notice black Griff blowing 14 February xxx's!) missed it.

But then roof off, shades on, anorak zipped up, hat firmly on at angle and turn the furnace up (to between 4 and 5 on the dial )

Makes going to work a treat. Gentle mist over the trees, sunshine pouring down. V8 soundtrack as scenery blurs........

Only spotted one other with the roof down, moved over to allow nice little Lotus (note please: TVR driver compliments Lotus - shock horror probe) to pass just to check - Lotus drivers don't appear to have such silly hats!!!

But, my poor old fingers were a little on the cool side. Guess I am gonna have to invest in some natty little string-back old geezer type driving gloves and look a right wuss (what's new) if I want to go more than half an hour in British summer weather

Anyway.

Ted why don't we have a PH "Old Farts who drive Griff" section in the shop that stocks PHOF driving gloves? Size ten please! (Obviously there would be OAP discount for over 25s )

Anybody know a good source, shop or mail order, where some decent gloves are available???

Personally use the same gloves I wear when I fly paragliders. Windstopper fleece, can add an extra lining if needed and have rubberised grips on palms and fingers, (no good without - avoid them). Ought to be able to get such similar things in decent outdoors shops..

Yeah, roof of in the winter is smart, my MR2 Turbo keeps your hand nice and toasty , lacks a V8 soundtrack though

Leather flying gloves are much better. Some warmth, and can grip properly. Moreover, they don't look like old fart gloves.

I was in exactly the same predicament yesterday and had to put the hood up in the end (what a wuss). Nice to know that there are some stylish gloves around (Those CK ones don't look too bad).

I'll have to look into this more and make a purchase, I think.

The other alternative are racing gloves, of course. Sparco, Momo, OMP, take your pick.

Anyway, thanks for the tips. Found myself in the company of Mr John Lewis. Exchanged a few promisory notes for a pair of his gloves and whoooopppppeeeee!

Nice warm hands, even after a forty mile bimble round the Congestion Charge Overspill Ringroad Car Park (M25) this morning.

Only other car sans hood was some old boy in a Midget with a silly hat. (The old boy not the MG)

I tell you when your main customers are up in Sweden you need gloves, warm socks and an overcoat. Last week when I was in Gothenburg it was a "mild" -10 degC. I'd rather have warm hands than frost bite thank you. Rich...

If you want a pair OAP gloves take a hike to your glorious British institution that is M&S. They do a kinky little brown string back number, purpose spec'd for driving and damned warm too!

The child bride thinks I look like a puff ....... but I'm a warm one at that!

Hey, Psychobert ... where do you fly? I have my own glider and am very keen on getting back into my flying, I live in Cambs area... I have flew in Isle of Whyte(sp) a couple of times last year but nothing this year.
