in my wifes CLS? Had a couple of fingerprints on it. Wiped it very gently with some kitchen roll ( I know, I know in hindsight should have used something softer!)Now it appears to have scratch marks all over it. What can I do to repair the damage if anything, whats it made of etc ( it's literally the perspex type piece you view through)? Fortunately only shows up when turned off and not affecting the operation of it but I'm truly gutted at being so stupid. God I hope it's not a dashboard out job!
While I'm posting we have two other things I wonder if anyone could throw sone light on?
Firstly when braking the the brakes seem to really "grab" at the end as you slightly increase the pressure when coming to a virtual halt would this be brake assist.
Secondly the change from 1st /2nd is bloody awful( compared with the seamless other changes) at low revs is this an TADTS?
Thanks in advance for any replys from someone in big trouble with their wife!

Hi got a suggestion, why not go back to MB and state you feel it is a design fault in that you cannot clean / wipe effectively due to the softness of the screen rendering it none user friendly! If you had used any kind of cleaning liquid perhaps then that would be a different matter, give it a try they may help! Good luck

Unless you've written that wrongly, that's a slightly strange way to drive. Normally you ease off on the brake pedal as the car comes to a halt, so that passengers don't get that jerk back as the car stops. However, it's quite hard to do in a powerful auto - as you release the pressure, the car wants to keep going!
Does the CLS have SBC hold? It could be this grabbing a bit early.

Sorry to hear about the screen – most people find out about the effects of kitchen roll by using it to clean plastic sun-glasses. Even tissues can do this.

By "virtual halt", I mean i.e when approaching a roundabout with some forward momentum and then you realise you need to come to a halt the brakes seem to grab. Hope I've explained it a bit better!

I'm guessing here, but that could well be Brake Assist - it's thinking there's a problem because you suddenly increase the pressure on the brake pedal, so it's assisting you.

Do you drive it much - perhaps it's just a matter of a familiarity thing? All the electronics in current Merc means it's doing a lot of stuff itself - you're just piloting it really!

this sounds a lot like a problem i've had with my car for some time now. it usually happens at about 1500 rpm with a jerk being felt through the transmission. this seems to be a common fault on c32's and some other MB's but after several visits to the dealer i have yet to find a cure. some people seem to think this is due to glycol contamination in the transmission fluid (although i had mine tested and it came back negative) also some believe its a software problem. i am hoping to find a cure to this soon as it seems to be getting worse and is pretty annoying, so i would also appreciate any feedback on this problem

SJC: Presume wifey's is the new 7 speed box? Seen several reports of this - some been cured by software. Others had new boxes yet the fault persists.

Thanks for all the correspondence,re; the gearbox, yes it is the 7 speeder and yes it is always at low speed/revs, Wifes car is due in on Wednesday for an exhaust bracket ,will mention it to them and report back. Have a horrible feeling it might be a TADTS!

Hi was having a look on MB owners website and found this recall with regard to brake concerns, hope this of use.
Regards Andy
Mercedes-Benz is recalling nearly 60,000 cars in the UK
Mercedes-Benz is recalling nearly 60,000 cars in the UK and 1.3 million throughout the world. The models affected are the 6 and 8 cylinder petrol engined cars produced between June 2001 and November 2004, which require checks on the alternator voltage regulator. E-Class and CLS cars built from January 2002 to January 2005, are being recalled for a software upgrade to the battery control unit, which will improve the on-board power supply. Also the braking system on the E-Class, CLS and SL models produced between June 2001 and March 2005 are being updated. Mercedes-Benz are stressing that these recalls are part of a drive for the highest possible quality standards, and the potential problems were identified on the car production lines. Head of Mercedes-Benz Dr Eckhard Cordes, said: 'We are now producing the best product quality ever and our aim is to ensure that those vehicles in the hands of customers which are the cause of complaints achieve a standard of quality that reflects our highest expectations.' All affected customers should recieve a letter in the next two weeks asking them to take there car to a dealer for the checks. For more information call the Mercedes-Benz European hotline on 00800 1 777 7777

O.K. an update.Regards the Command screen they have managed to get the scratches out, don't know how but I'm chuffed(think they may have used a detailer who was going to do a kerbed wheel for us).The dealer also said they found nothing wrong with the gearbox, but re-did the software anyway..........and changes from 1st-2nd are now much better! Thanks once again for all your help and replies.
