Hi all,

Miss Havoc became Mrs Havoc a couple of months ago. So her V5 is in her maiden name. On top of that, we're looking to sell or p/ex her car pretty imminently.

So...do we HAVE to go through the sheer hell and bureaucratic delays that are the DVLA to change the name on the V5 (and will it become a 'new keeper'?), or can we just flog it on under her old name so long as we can prove that she really used to be who she used to be?

Thanks,

Martin

If sale is imminent, go for the latter I'd say. Otherwise, just bung it in the post with the amendment.

In the UK you can go by any name you wish so long as there is no intention to do anything illegal. A woman can continue to use her maiden name if she wishes indefinately. So there is no legal requirement to re-register the car and she could, in fact, buy and register another one in her maiden name.
