Tiger or Westfield?

Hi there,
I have previously owned both a Caterham and a Westfield SEiW. Having not owned a seven type car for some years now I am keen to buy another. With a budget of 5K I’m looking at Westfields and Tiger Super Six’s. Any advice on which will suit me best given the criteria below.
1. Car will be kept outside but in a relatatively secure car park (i.e private land round the back of my flat which is built in a cul-de-sac.
2. Car must come with weather gear.
3. I’m quite short (5’ 8”
and slim so don’t need a wide cockpit. The Westfield SEiW always felt slightly too big for me. The Caterham cockpit was just right.
4. Handling and mechanical robustness is important.
5. 13” wheels with sticky tyres preferred.
6. Spares availability and factory back-up is also important.
At the moment I’m leaning towards the Tiger. It looks to be a quality kit and there are quite a few around at tempting prices. They usually come with 2.0 pintos at this price level. Downsides are that they are heavy and they won’t be IRS at this price.
The other option is to try and save another £2.5K and go for a Caterham. Still the ‘real thing’ in my opinion and easy to sell on shouldI need to. Only worry is that a £7.5K Caterham will be a lot older and may need a bit of TLC. Also there is the worry of electrolytic corrosion on the aluminium.

Thanks Martin, Have been looking at Piston Heads on nearly an hourly basis.... i need to get out more. Have you made any decisions yet, if i am going to spend around £5-6K it is either going to be a Tiger or a MK Indy. Can't decide to think bugger it and blow £10k ish on Westfield or Caterham.

A lot of comes down to personal preference. Personally I don't like the Tiger Cat E1. I would only consider a Supersix. The Tiger Avon is meant to be a very good car although there aren't too many about. For me a big part of it is having good factory back-up. when I had the Caterham / Westfield if I needed any parts a quick phone call did the job and they arrived at my home address in the next 2 days. Horses for courses as ever but I'm leaning towards to Supersix because I think they offer very good value for money. I won't be buying anything until i seel my motorbike though.

I wish i had that option, i wrote mine off a few weeks ago. This is the main reason i am looking at the Caterfields, 4 wheels has got to be safer than 2, also i think that my wife would prefer my to be around for our daughter as she grows up. I got away with a broken shoulder, just waiting for the insurance to pay out. I like the Super Six too!

Factory back up from Tiger is usually pretty good. I rang them on Thursday morning last week for a few replacement odds and ends and they were on my doorstep the following morning.

agreed tiger are good and i would build another in the future, and the best thing is that others who have built a tiger are a great group backed up by a helpful online forum. and plenty of local clubs as well
