Morning - have an interesting one and I don't want to bother my local indie yet...

Either I have a small bird trapped under the bonnet or one of the pulleys or flywheel is squeaking at low revs (guess you could not hear it over the exhaust when motoring anyway)

Anyone had this? any advice?

Could I grease either of the shafts and if so what would I use and where would I put it......(waits for all the smutty comments and hopes for a good answer after they have died down)

Many thanks in advance for the helpful and learned replies

When I had this on my Tuscan it was one of the chains under the front engine cover. It does sound like bird chirping.

Funny you should say that - do also get a chain chatter at about 2000 revs....still could have sworn it was a pulley...

Keep em coming!

Have you had a look to see where it's coming from?

I thought my Tuscan had developed something terminal a while back when I heard this strange metallic rubbing noise at idle.

On closer inspection it turned out to be a dead packet of Quavers that was rubbing against the front pulley!

You never know......

Yep - firest thought that crossed my mind..

Had a good "shufty" and it is coming from one of the pulley shafts or the flywheel on the front of the engine - only when the engine is warm after a couple of miles

Even tried a bit of WD but NOT when the engine is running - too may visions of getting caught on something or a fire!!

My Tam was doing something very similar to what you describe and it turned out to be a clutch bearing which i had replaced under warranty at Cicely TVR. The noise only appeared when the clutch pedal was up, in gear or neutral, and disappeared when the clutch pedal pressed down.

Had this on my Tuscan one, it was the timing chain bearings. If it is this they need to be replaces ASAP, because if they fail you will have some valves hitting the pistons, then its rebuild time.

Now for the bad news. The front cover does not come off while the engine is in place to remove the remove the bearings, so your engine has to be dropped...

Best to get it checked, or, you might be droppping the engine for a whole heap more of trouble
