I don't post much here, but I thought somebody may be interested in this...

Six weeks ago my Monaro (Only 3 month old) started making some very strange noises from the engine (tapit like). Being almost new I phoned the Salesman at my local dealer ...

After a very tedious conversation I was told to ring Vauxhall Assist! There were very helpful and called the AA who arrived with an hour ...

The AA man had never seen or heard a Monaro and asked me if the engine should sound like that! After more tedious questions he checked the oil level, gave up and called the recovery truck.

Not bad so far ... However its gets worst ....

The car was taken to my local dealer, who after 1 week had managed to get the rocker cover off! although I had various stories ranging from its the oil pump sir, we've stripped down the engine to we are about to take the engine out!

Another week goes by

The dealer reports we've stripped down the bottom end, the top end ... and various other bullshit.

Another week goes by

At this point I get really pi..ed off, Demand to speak to the after sales director, at last no bull shit - He tells me they have taken the rocker cover off! BUT he will now take direct responsibility, so ....

now Vauxhall Germany, and Holden Aus get involved !!!!

The garage finally (a week later) find a broken tapit, replace all tapits, rebuild engine and ring me (Without trying it!) During the conversation the dealer goes quiet as he has to confess the car still makes the same noise !!!

At this point both he and I shout new engine NOW, Vauxhall refuse to agree to this due to the £10K price tag!

During all this time I have had a variety of loan cars ... Ford Mondeo, Vectra etc

Buy this time I not sure if I will ever see my car again ...

So Vauxhall step in, take my car back to the factory .. get me a Monaro demonstrator - 06 Plate 5K miles on the clock

I let you know what happens next !

Bloody hellers, what a bunch of misfits!

I only really stumbled on Greens by accident - had I not joined this board I wouldn't have known about them and may well have encountered people like the dealer you mention.

It seems Vauxhall service like this and I've just gotten lucky with Greens - awful if that is the case but I really hope it isn't.

At least they're wielding said hammer........

A lot of companies would wash their hands of it. I'd rather a hammer than a wall of silence.

Good skills Stu, thanks for looking in. We all know there are 'issues' with your Monaro 'specialists' (bar 2 or 3), but at least head office are interested.

It's good to know

You beat me to it! What's more, with US cars it's recognised but never used to be covered by warranty as performance isn't effected, so they say. This may have changed.

Thing is, newer cars have tighter piston clearances and teflon coated skits to stop them siezing so is piston slap a thing of the past? Maybe the occasional engine still has it.

I've got an lsx in a range rover and it's got a noisey lifter. An oil change shut it up
