Car Needed - Any Suggestions?

I’m going to be leaving the country in 3-4 months and need a run around to tide me over until I go. Does anybody have any suggestions?

It has to be:

less than a grand
Good fun to drive
Preferably RWD, although a fun FWD is not out of the question i.e. mini!
Easy to get ride of
Reliable

Is this a tall order? If anybody has got any suggestions or even better, a car for sale, drop me a line!

Mate of mine has a Mk1 MR2 for sale, very second hand but good bodywork and a years MOT £600 I think

I'd buy a capri though, £500 should get you at least 2.0 (go for 2.8 if you can)

I'd look for a 90's Fiesta XR2i or similar if I were you. should fit the bill! Fun, cheap, relaible(ish) and easy to sell on.

Good suggestions gents - Phoned about a 2.8 special but it was sold yesterday (Bugger).

Also phoned about an XR4*4 but there are 10 people coming to look at it tonight.

What I'd really like is a fiddled with Mk2 Escort, phwaar!

Alfa 75 3.0, this engine is one of the best ever produced, the rest of the car is ok and it is rear wheel drive, with classical handling. I had one and ran it into the back of a post office van, but before that is was great. Believe me if you have not driven an Alfa 3.0 then you should.

Or if you want cheap reliable fwd with added lift off oversteer try a Pug 205 or 309 GTi, preferably 1.9. You'll enjoy driving round the outside of Griffs on wet roundabouts (but don't try it on with those M100 Elans). Fabulous cheapies.

Yeah, I know. My mate had one for a year (last year of it's life) and it was only fun in an icy car park at 4am.......

The mere thought of attempting to get it sideways with those high tech leaf springs and wonderfully accurate steering (not) on anything other than an empty carpark fills me with dread.

I couldn't agree more - don't do it, unless you want a car that handles like a rowing boat and goes as fast...
