Decided to try using Raw as opposed to Jpg. I plugged the camera into the computer (apple) and iphoto can't open them. I downloaded them onto the desktop but nothing seems to be able to access them. Any ideas??

Can't tell much about Apple-y type electrickery, but what camera and have you checked the software is updated to be able to read the particular brand of RAW-ness???

Not all RAW formats are the same

I don't use iphoto but I don't think it supports RAW. I guess you'll just have to use a different software.

I've just imported a RAW file into iPhoto as a test before replying. Knew you could do it, but wanhted to test first.
I also believe that iPhoto will import from camera, I have done it, but it was a while ago.

It may be that your version of iPhoto does not support the RAW format produced by your camera. However, if the software (or manufacturer specific components of it) came with the camera that would be a surprise.

Edit to add - or you may some problem files as I have from a week or two back. They claim to be raw files but nothing I have will open them. I have no idea why they were a problem unless I had some dodgy battery/power problems which went unreported by the camera.

Have you updated iPhoto? I had to update PS to be able to read the Canon-specific file extension RAW's that my 20D produces...

Getting arsey now. Just tried downloading some PS updates for raw files but I'm still having no luck. Originally the file would show up in grey so you couldn't select them. Now that I've tried a couple of downloads the files come up in black and show up as thumbnails but won't open. It seems that I need CS2 rather than CS for the necessary plug in to work as I have a Dynax5d. Are there any other programs woth a try. I'm going to see if I can find any downloads for iphoto now.

You could try the free beta of Lightroom. It lists the Dynax5D as a supported file format.

Thanks for that, thought I was on to a winner but this pop up will teach me not to buy the more powerful mac 'Adobe Lightroom requires Mac OS version 10.4.0 or higher, and a system with at least 512MB of RAM.' Damn it!!!!!!!!!

Oh dear. Just checked out iPhoto and the latest version doesn't list the Dynax as being compatible... sorry. Didn't the camera come with a disk and some (most probably awful software) that will open and convert their flavour of RAW?
