Seat Subframes

Hi All.

Sorry I havent posted for a while, been rather busy with non TVR related work and the like....

I have enquired into getting a pair of Cobra Clubman seats and been told that Subframes aren't produced for the Wedge - even in their 'talored to suit' category.

If I went ahead and bought these seats - would any other carseat subframe fit both Cobra's and 280i ??
Having a look at the actual seats on the weekend, there was no obvious attachment points for the frames ..

Anybody have any ideas ??

If I remember correctly, the original deat subframes were Austin Metro.
If you try a serch as it has been discussed a few times.

The thing with seat slides is that, like the seats themselves, not many companies actually supplied them to the whole British motor industry.
Cambro in Coventry made any number of variants of their seats for the assorted mutations of BL cars, hence why people swear that TVR seats are 'from a TR6' or 'modified from a Stag' etc. etc. They're not, they just happen to use the same components as there wasn't much variety.

I found that Maestro seats had runners with exactly the correct-spaced holes for TVR seats, but they were too wide due to the adjusting rail that linked the slides together. Cut the rail and reweld it: hey presto 'new' slides. Worked on the Esprit seats too.

As far as the Cobras are concerned, we used them in a kitcar in '82 and they had a 'universal' subframe that could be drilled to your requirements, maybe they still do one?

Right.

I took the seats out and measured up the holes against the Cobra's - they are exactly the same minus subframes !! just wondering if it is legal to have seats mounted without subframes in cars ????? as they are non-adjustable ( just right for me though which is nice! bit of a bummer if a short person wants to drive )

I'm about to put in a pair of Cobra Roadster 7's. They have a seat runner which should fit a Tasmin - at least I hope so. I can see no reason why they can't be made to fit...

I did find that if subframes were needed - they would have to be thin due to leg vs steering wheel clearance - seats I have previously tried offer only a few inches which isnt really feasible for a comfy ride. - I could use the old frames and modify them to fit, but they are a bit knackered and i dont really want to use them with me new seats.
