bought it today..who cares about the problems!!!???
Discussion
finally done it bought a 2000 tuscan 's' 24000miles no rebuilds to date with full main dealer history. drivin home i notched up a list of problems that did not become apparent in the short test drive i went out on the other day:
1) efi warning keep showing. ive heard that this can be a symptom of the beast being damp or wet but every time ive taken her out the suns been burning my eyes out.
2) 'door open' warning appears when driving. this in turn only allows the window to go up so far.
3) fuel gauge is erratic. ranges from 21L to 0L in the blink of an eye. i know its full because i filled her up before i set off
4) could anyone help me out with a local garage for servicing etc. thinking of getting it checked over before i get too many miles under my belt.
5) whilst drivin my first impression was that the tracking was off but under brakin the car judders quite violently and theres a clicking noise coming from what sounds like the drivers sid front wheel.
not going to mention the interior trim as gorgeous as it is the build quality and use of glue is both poor and splashed around. This i will sort once the above 'niggles' are ironed out.
havin said all this theres nothing ive driven or seen on the road that has put a bigger smile on my face!!!!!! have to say its worth every penny and even if i do break down ill be doin it in style.
Any help guys will be greatly appreciated..sorry 4 waffling.

Good, another tick in the lifes good bits box!
Mathew, the EFI warning is common and would expect it to settle, and the door closure might be poorly positioned latch or something very easy!
The clicking and judder concerns me, and most probably a few others, so please get the car jacked up, take the wheels off and look for a damaged brake disk. I am not sure where you are, but theres lots of good TVR specialists about. Austec being my favorite.
Edit to say stokes up north, Ian at Middlewhich torque RVT? Sold him a few bits and bobs, but seemed to know Tuscans well. Anyone?

The fuel sender in the tank is a pretty basic affair. You can remove it via the round cover with the plug on the driver's side top of the fuel tank. Mine used to drop to 0 quite a lot so I took it out and bent the wiper a bit as it was not making very good contact with the wire coil. It's been ok for about 18 months since.

Should've bought mine! No problems like those apart from occasional "EFI fault" warning, which disappears if you restart the engine. Realise you're a bit distant to have considered a London car though.

Good luck with the car - they are GREAT.
Good luck with yours, had mine for a few weeks now and love it. Despite having been stung for a new clutch already. Yes it does seem to have a mind of it's own as far as the windows and dash pod are concerned but the wife thinks they add to the character.
Oh, done the breaking down in style bit as well. Mind you I was suprised by the number of people who stopped to see if they could help, you don't get that in a Beemer.

The next thing you should do is get an AA parts and labour policy for piece of mind and to stop you falling out of love with if you do breakdown.
(I think you may have to have the breakdown as well) basically it gives u upto 3 x £500 claims per yearly policy if the AA can't get you going - and let's face it there's not a great deal a recovery service can fix at the roadside on a Tusky they'll tow you to the garage while you get the repair authorised won't cover tyres just machanical breakdowns. I took this out 10 months ago and have used it for a Throttle cable and slave cylinder for the clutch - no quibbles or BS to deal with. I'd wish I'd done it years ago! Having said that they are the only times I have broken down - 25000 miles is about right for clutchy issues.

Hi,
I'm no techie, but a couple of your niggles sound familiar....
1. "Door open" warning. I had this. There is a sensor in the door, and it seems to work itself loose. Local TVR dealership adjusted it with a small screwdriver and it solved the problem. It's a 30 second job. I just wish I'd paid more attention as one year on the problem has started to recur. Ho hum..... Can be a pain as it once caused the window to open spontaneously in a storm ! But anyway, assuming it's the same problem as I had, a dealer can rectify it in no time and hopefully won't charge you for the privilege.
2. Fuel tank gauge. Utterly shocking ! I don't dare to rely on mine at all. One minute I have 20 L, the next 5 ! I just ensure I fill up every 150-200 miles and totally ignore the gauge as it's pants.
Welcome to the world of Tuscan ownership - niggles galore for me, but none remotely serious so far after 18 months, and the driving experience is unique at the price - blows my 52 reg M3 out of the water for pace, thrills, drama and fun (though not for long journeys !)

My fuel gauge readings haven't differed as extremely as yours but a lot has to do with the slope you are on and how hard (and in which direction) you're cornering/accelerating/braking. If you drive for a few seconds on a flat straight at constant speed you ought to get the best reading. Mine's always been consistent but 4-6L on the reading equals 0-1L in the tank!

nearly put her through a hedge already thats whats wrong!!!haha im basically jumping out of an elise into a beast...prefer some dry weather to get a feel first before i end up the wrong side of a lamp post...!!! someone mustve heard me anyway...glorious day outside!!
If you have the original suspension then its pants. Big girls variety. When i bought mine i found that it tramlined suicidaly and i was having regular underpant changing moments. MY STRONG ADVISE would be to get Nitrons fitted. It transformed the handling on mine and is without question the best £1200 i have spent on her.

doesnt feel like suspension problems although if there was they would be disguised by the fact my concentration is aimed more towards the fact that my forearms are been torn apart by the juddering and shaking under braking. Nitrons are my next step once all these little bits are sorted and i can enjoy the car and concentrate on drivin it the way it should be.
