On this thread down below there is a Tick this box etc so I get emails when people reply.

Is there a way to do this on threads you've contributed to but not started?

Out of interest, how many posts per hour do we create? Would the WWW cope if you did launch that?

Good point actually. I'll need to see just how much email would be generated.

Ted, maybe you could structure it to do a routine (say, every 6/12/24 hours or whenever) where it checked all the subscribed threads and then compiled the emails and sent them out saying (for example) "there have been 6 new replies to topic X in the last 6 hours" or "there have been 12 replies to topic Z since you last visited PH". I guess you could combine info from all of a users subscribed threads into one email that way too.

Yes, that's a good idea.

Yeah if you accidently stumble upon a popular topic you will have your inbox inundated with annoying messages.

Which probably doesn't help PH mail when it comes to avoiding being caught up in spam filters...

I probably dont need to tell you how the vbulletin thing works, but its quite clever in that you get the first "next" reply by email and then no more until you've logged in and viewed the rest. Then they start again. That'd cut down on emails
