Worth checking out. I'm trying to clean my system now, I can't see it being anything other than a virus.

Just finished reading it, quite interesting - have you discovered a new virus?

Sounds nasty! Thanks for the warning (and how to deal with it).

It was a keylogger, smhost.exe was the culprit, writing to a file called smhost.

When I checked the smhost file, it was a complete record of everything I'd typed into Firefox for about 10 days (the length of the infection). It was also installing cookies to my browser history on every reboot.

Fortunately I didn't type any passwords for anything important, however I've changed my Ebay and Paypal passwords just to be on the safe side.

I had the same problem with FF closing on opening after an upgrade of some extensions.

I just created a new FF profile, reinstalled the extensions I wanted didn't have the problem after that.

Thanks for the warning on this. What av software are you running?
