Pick Me Up magazine
Discussion
Just a heads-up for you, guys.
Pick Me Up magazine has been publishing articles for a few weeks now, along with a form you can send in to Tony Bliar supporting none other than BRAKE. (Yes, *that* BRAKE.)
This week's issue features a guy who was caught doing 148 mph and jailed for 28 days as a result. The police photo just shows him on his bike on the motorway. It doesn't mention whether the motorway was full or empty (although I suppose I can guess...).
Anyway! The whole article is based on the guy saying "that was just too fast, I could have killed someone, I'm so ashamed", etc. etc. Sure, that kind of speed is best kept to the track - but nobody was injured, nobody was killed. It's just a "what if" scenario. So what's their point? It's not like most people go around doing 148 mph, is it?
I wonder whether someone should start writing letters to Pick Me Up about this extreme anti-car bias?
Interestingly, their fill-in form doesn't mention speeding at all, even though their articles bang on about it.
"In the wrong hands, a car is a weapon and if the privilege of driving is abused, we should all face the consequences".
But isn't that rather missing the point? What's the use of giving stiffer sentences to people who kill kids on the road when educating drivers and pedestrians to be more alert would be a lot more constructive? Hell, it might even save lives...

Something like this:

I really don't understand this hair-shirt-wearing to life.

My point entirely. Why should we "all face the consequences"? People like us on PH take a pride in our driving, I don't see why we should face the consequences of morons driving uninsured, or badly, or whatever. We should make the driving test a lot harder to pass, introduce retesting and have people shot if they fail.
Okay. Maybe the last bit is taking it to extremes. But you know what I mean.

A few months ago a Marshall was killed at Oulton Park by a vehicle doing significantly less than that speed.
Its all about conditions, not numbers.
