Hi folks,

Just joined the 21st century and finally bought a DVD writer (mostly for backups) - cheapo LG job with no software as I (mistakenly as it turns out ) assumed that XP SP2 would have some way of writing them!

It seems not. Also, my copy of Nero was bundled with my old CD writer and won't work with another drive. My dad says he managed to upgrade his similar version of Nero (5.x.x.x) for free on their website to write DVDs, but all I can see is a 50 Euro upgrade to the all-singing all dancing v.7 which I don't really want.

So what's the best cheap/free way of writing files to a DVD?

If your copy of nero aint working with your new burner have you tried un-installing nero and then a re-install? don't know why it aint working but if that does not help then try Download.com for your media software but all this burning/copying is for your own stuff that you want to back up right?????

Yes, it was a Lite-On CD writer and it only works with that drive...

There looks to be some useful stuff on download.com if you filter out all the free trial stuff.
