Need some advice people - am being told all sorts of conflicting stories.

Can anyone give me a diffinative answer to the question of whether a new Audi A6 with DVD Sat Nav upgrade comes complete with UK TMC functionality for notification of congestion, accidents, etc.

Have spoken to two Audi Salesmen - one says it does - the other says it doesn't - something to do with licencing!?!?! - BMW don't seem to have a licencing problem!!!!

Other people say it only works in mainland Europe, others say it doesn't work at all.

Please help.

I think that they do not at the moment.

However, I had my 55 plate A8 upgraded at no expense to make the TMC work so at the very least I would hope that it could be done as a factory download/disc upgrade post delivery.

Hope that helps.

Excellent - Thanks.

So at least we know the system works, or can be made to work.

One would hope that this being the case, Audi will ensure that all 56 plate cars are factory enabled.

Have a TMC enabled system in my current car and have found it absolutely brilliant - so many times it has provided me traffic congestion advice complete with an option to divert around it - would recommend anyone who has the opportunity to get theirs done, do it - it may make the difference between making it home in time for kick-off, and missing the penalties at the end!!! (missing penalties? sounds very England-like!).

Cheers

Work fine in my 2005 A6. It records any message you missed while away from the vehilcle and will play them back.

Tried a new-shape A6 dealer demo yesterday and it worked on that - very impressive.

I have the old shape A6 with the Sat Nav and dealers are unsure if I can get the TMC thing working - it worked in France so not sure why not in the UK.

My July 06 RS4 has TMC crossed out in the on the nav screen. Have yet to ascertain whether that means it won't work, would work but isn't paid for, or needs to be tuned in/set up. Keep meaning to take it up with the dealer but never seem to get round to it. TMC works in my other car and is quite useful (albeit usually a little late on where jams are actually in the process of building up)

A6 (old shape) back from the dealer today. I am told TMC cannot be made to work.

Why does it work in France? Surely I just have to pay for a subscription? I reckon a case of lazy dealer again...

Guys n Girls

Have finally got an answer from Audi - they have confirmed that all new A6's will come complete with full TMC functionality provided that they are spec'd with DVD Sat Nav and MMI High system (Comms pack 2). It cannot work with the the CD based system.

It may (stress may) therefore be safe to assume that other new models will enjoy TMC if they are similarly spec'd with the DVD system.

Apparently it was all down to a software issue, which they have now resolved - they declined to confirm however whether 'older' DVD systems could now be upgraded.

Thanks for all the help and advice.

I know this is an old topic but TMC is absolutely useless.
I bought an ugrade navigation CD for my car and it cost £188 !
The TMC is slow up update, has incorrect info and only works on motorways.
It has never once helped me and I've lost count of the number of times I have entered a tailback only to find the traffic tailback symbol appear on the screen too late. Also all the other times I've seen the tailback on the screen and there be no tailback at all. Until they update the TMC back-end it's useless.

I disagree, my A6 has full TMC funcytionality that works on A roads on motorways. It effctively routed me round an accident on the m40n the other week, saving about 20 minutes, i was following a mate who got held up inthe queue.

Hey that's interesting. Does that mean annyone who has a TMC enabled disk gets the update on A roads now as well or is it just that the Audi one uses a different setup ? I must admit I haven't used my TMC facility for ages.

Audi TMC uses the information from the Trafficmaster Network which covers all the motorways and most trunk roads but not every A road.

I wonder when it expires ?

Audi

Trafficmaster has a 3 year agreement with Volkswagen Group United Kingdom Ltd to provide up-to-the-minute traffic information, through its Trafficmaster’s Radio Data System Traffic Message Channel service, to satellite navigation systems fitted to Audi vehicles.

Does anyone know if this is the same for VW yet? I tried to find out in Jan as to why the TMC wasn't working in my Golf to be told by VW and Teleatlas that as VW weren't signed up to the network, the DVD wasn't coded to allow for TMC messages in the UK.
