Heated Screens
Discussion
I have a heated screen on the Boxster. Everything seems to be there that should be and the switch illuminates when pressed. As this is the first time that I have had a heated screen I am wondering how effective they are at shifting ice, etc. It really doesn't do much at the moment and certainly is not as quick at defrosting as the mirrors are.
Is it working or are they just slow at defrosting icy windscreens?

Do you mean the heated rear screen on the back of the MY03 cars? Or do you mean some option I've never heard of which heats the front windscreen? Fords used to have heated front windscreens on the Ghia models - what a GREAT feature. If I'd known you could get THAT I'd have ordered it!
The heated rear window is a demister - it can't really be expected to cope with the ice on the outside...

Almost sounds like the radio aerial, which on my VW Sharan consists of 2 or 3 wires in the offside rear window. In its heated screen there are approx 450 wires arranged vertically in the glass, about 10 per inch across almost 4 feet.
BTW I think some manufacturers "cheat" by fitting a switch which looks like a heated front screen switch as on my VW and Ford, but which rather than providing power to elements in the screen merely directs air to the demister slots in the dash. I've seen this on Citroens - no doubt others do it too.

DOH! :soundofpennydropping: that would explain the poor performance then. Damned technology.
The climate control has a demister button that does the job automatically and there is a button (middle left centre console)which the dealer (not OPC) told me was a heated front screen.

Thanks guys

No - I'm sure those 450 wires must be the aerial. FM and LW reception must be bloody brilliant!!![]()
Just wish it was the aerial in the VW. FM's ok but MW reception is lousy even with booster fitted; LW impossible !
