Excellent new Independent at Halstead, North Essex
Discussion
Roberto Grimaldi, previously with Colin Clarke, has just set up Grimaldi Engineering next to Eurospares in Halstead specialising in Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati and also Porsche. Whilst his service and repair prices are very competitive, his work is to a very high standard as I recently found out:
My 3200 decided to cremate its heater (and aircon) blower fan during prolonged use neccessitating its replacement. Unfortunately, the fan is upside down behind and below the passenger glove box but blocked by the transmission tunnel. The one thing I avoid working on wherever possible is with trim and upholstery and since a fan change involves removing most of the dashboard, I badly needed someone with restoration experience and a delicate touch - Enter my good friend James of Eurospares who promptly put me in touch with Roberto.
With this sort of work, no reliable estimate can be given as it is completely time dependent with a lot of care required not to mark the delicate leather. You are therefore a victim waiting to be mugged by the unscrupulous. From the outset however, I knew I was in safe hands and just 2.5 days later the job was finished, the car valeted and awaiting collection without a single blemish on the upholstery.
By a very strange twist of fate, it turns out that Rob had rebuilt the engine of a very rare RHD Lamborghini Islero several years back whilst with Colin Clarke that belonged (and still does) to a good friend of mine. Proof enough of the man's talent I think.
Grimaldi Engineering website is not yet completed but service and maintenance prices for most models are already published.
Unlike far too many workshops, Rob's "Office" is absolutely spotless and he takes a lot trouble to make sure you see that during your visit. I was so impressed I have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending him and wish him every success - Just what East Anglia needed.

Yep, didn't know the name of the dude but knew about the place, as the guys from Eurospares told me about it about a month ago (it's on the wing behind Eurospares main offices, just opposite to their large depot, if my memory does not falter). The day I was there it was closed, so had no chance to speak with the guy.
Anyway, it's always good to know about another option outside (steal)erships to head to if something goes wrong.
