Overheating Problem

Picked up my Griff yesterday and everything fine till I came off motorway. Tempo climbed to red and I pulled over - popped bonnet and switched off engine, Sitched on iginition to see if fans were on - they were . Allowed engine to coold down, to 90 ish and switched on igniotion fans on - stasrt engine and fans stop. Anyone any ideas. I checked all the fuses, the relay appears ok and the fact that the fans would run with the engine stopped and ignition oin indicates that relay is ok. Any Ideas, spoke to dealer and his mecdhanic had never come across symptoms like these.

I don't know about this, but check the earth the fans use - at the end of the driver's side chassis rail under the radiator (or possibly on the arb mount just above). It's conceivable that with the engine running there's a potential somewhere that's causing the earth not to conduct cleanly. Also check for voltage at the fans connectors with the engine running. Do the fans run constantly, engine running, with the otter switch shorted? If so, at least that'll get you to the Growl!

As a test run another earth accross to the otter (either spade) connect this in place of the black wire but leave the pink and green connected. Run your engine through a few cycles and then youll know its your earth if it runs ok. This is something I learned from a similar problem I had myself and the invaluable help from people.

This proved to be the problem b19 rus.
