I'm thinking of getting a c-class estate (have a little one on the way) and wondered when the new one was due. I'd be buying 2nd hand, and am concerned about the effect that will have on residuals. Also any opinions on the engine range ? It seems that the diesels command a hefty premium, but I don't do enough miles to really care about mpg. the 6cyl petrols seem good value- are they any good ? thanks

I have no info. on release date, but you are right that residuals will be affected. It is a fact of M/B life that they are now just as susceptable to depreciation as most other marques.

You certainly won't go wrong with a six cylinder petrol, especially if you go for an AMG model!

Good hunting, there are plenty about, so go for the best you can afford.

It was supposed to be late 2007 as a 2008 model, but there have been so many pictures of it around for such a long time now that it may well be earlier.
I've seen some suggestions that it will appear at shows later this year, and go on sale early 2007.

Completely off topic, but in the last couple of weeks I have seen a couple of things on the road that aren't on sale yet.

The first was the new Mini - actually five of them in close 80mph convoy on the M4, all on trade plates, two blue, three red. They came off at J14 and headed north, no idea where they would have been going.

The second was the M6 cabrio. I followed a black one the day before it was launched at the motor show. He was going quite quickly but I didn't have any trouble keeping up. It didn't sound great I have to say, and it's not the prettiest of cars from the back.

If things really do come in threes, I'll keep my eyes peeled for a new C class since there seems to be some unusual activity round here these days

Someone who works at DC UK headquarters in Milton Keynes mentioned on a Merc forum a couple of weks ago that they had two very lightly disguised new shape C Class's in the car park.
