Well, I finally pick up my 400se dash tonight, after a hunt of nearly a year. I hope it fits into my FHC. I am going to need to get the metal plates cut that the instruments fit into. Has anyone got a contact that can take a Solidworks file and run it through a water cutter or such like? While I'm at it I may design a cunning folded headlight motor bracket too, I think I can make it so it can be constructed with two rivets (rivets in sheer are two tons so should be okay?). Anyone got a friend in the industry?

Jim, If you need some headlamp brackets I have been doing them for a couple of years now. CNC punched and welded from aluminium and powder coated. Send me a dxf or dwg file of your dash panel and I will see what I can do for you.

Well, maybe not, as I can't find your email in your profile - but I am interested in a pair of headlight motor brackets, if they will fit my FHC.

The e-mail linky is just above the pic of my car (or not as the case may be)
Depends on whether they are mounted on the pod floor or the front enginebay bulkhead. I dont think you can attach files initially thru' pistonheads but you can when you reply to an e-mail.

Jim,

email it to me at designs@mickbarrett.com, in either native Solidworks format or as a DXF and I'll see what I can do.

Is this the dash that was on ebay? Only ask as I was interested myself for my 350i DHC but slightly concerned about the issue of the 400se central tub supposedly being lower and narrower than the 350i. Think that's where you problems may lie...
good luck

Yes, indeedy it was the dash on eBay. I managed to get the metal dash panels, and some instruments but I haven't tried fitting it yet. The little insert panel that fits in the tray behind the handbrake is narrower than on the 350i, so you may be right that the tunnel is a different width. If it turns into a problem Mr hacksaw will paying a visit... Now I need to get the heater control assembly - anyone know what it is off? it looks like the one that used to be in my 280i FHC.
