OK - those amazing corporate people at my place of work have recorded a version of "Time of your Life" originally by Greenday, but now all cheesy and corporate with accompanying video. It is available on our intranet, but I do not have access to the file.

Any thoughts how I can record this onto my pc so that I can share with the world at large. It is worth it - happy clapping in the background and everything...

Thanks

Unless you can listen to it, you cant copy it..

unless ofcourse you find someone who CAN, and get them to copy it to you

If you can watch it on your intranet then you can access the file; just not where it is physically stored.
Simplest way off top of my head is to use something like Firefox's "View Page Info" go to the media tab and look for the video file, save it to something like a large USB thumb drive.
Assuming it's in a self contained format and not being streamed then that should do it.

Although your corporate employers probably aren't going to enjoy having that put on the internet you know?

Sorry - to clarify. I have a URL that I enter into our web browser (microsoft internet explorer) and a page comes up where the video (and sound) just plays automatically. There is no save as option when right clicking, while right clicking then going to properties only yields the web page. Will look into the Firefox thing tomorrow.

Surely if they are happy to broadcast this to a few hundred thousand employees, they wouldn't be embarrassed by it

try right click on the page, view Source..

or View... Source from the menu, might find the link to the video clip there.

Well - I get a text file, but can't spot anything obvious (for somebody who knows very little about computers!). I can't find anything that says .mp3, stream, wmp, and I am not sure what to look for next! Anybody care to look through it if I PM or email the text?

Just watched it again though - its definitely worth the effort!

Thanks

View Source, search for the following:
.avi
.mpg
.asx
.wmv

You should see something (hopefully) like http://<address>/TheVideo.<w you just looked for>.

Thanks - I think this must be the relevant piece of code - this is the only instance of any of the above text strings that I can find. So - what next?!

Thanks

Careful here you may be entering the world of copyright theft. Either Billie Joe Armstrong, who wrote the original song, or your company who made the video. Check out with your company and they may let you have it legitimately.

Right is's a stream. We can do this... we have the technology!

Find that asx file in your browsers cache or punch it's url manually (i.e. if your visiting h ttp://mycomapany/knowledgebase/corportatevision/move.html then put in http://mycompany/content/ and the rest of the url.

Open the asx file with notepad and you should see something like this

And that WMV is what you want. Now you can try putting http://<url> in and that MIGHT work, it does in some cases. But more likley your going to need a streamripper like this one http://sdp.ppona.com/ not used it personally but I'd wager File > Open Stream and paste the whole line that starts mms:// in to the box that appears.

The song title is 'Good Ridance' and that is just heresy.

You could also use Video Lan Client (VLC) to open the stream and redirect it to a file in the format of your choice. It's a bit techy though

If it plays in Internet Explorer go to Tools> "Internet options" and on the General tab click "Settings..." then click "View Files", a copy should be in the Temporary Internet File that opens.

If you find it then highlight it and click "Copy This Item" on the left hand column and copy it to the file of your choice.
