Alas - my faithful D-Link DSL-504t is on the blink, so I'm in the market for a new 4-port ethernet router to use with my Demon account.

I don't use wireless, VoIP or VPN, so I just need a straightforward but fast and reliable router for online gaming and general browsing/downloading. I'm currently on a 1Mbit connection (due to line condition & distance from the exchange), but I'm scheduled for an upgrade in September to MaxDSL - according to the status checker I should be good for about 4Mbit, so I'll need something that can handle that.

I've narrowed my choice down to two possible options - the new D-Link DSL-524t and the Draytek Vigor 2800. Does anyone have any experiences or opinions on either of these routers?

Thanks in advance

I use the 2800VG here and it has been faultless since two firmwares ago, on the factory F/W it took an age to synch to the exchange DSLAM but now its a trouble free bit of kit, and handles a ADSLMax line well. QOS, VPN all do what it says on the tin, uPnP works fine too.

'cept the ability to serve up an internal IP addres, route, handlew the NAT, firewall, and most importantly sync with a DSLAM

Long time Vigor user here, top pieces of kit.

Heheh - sorry if I was unclear - what I need is indeed a router with built-in ADSL modem .

Well, I say need. Rumours of my D-Link's death appear to have been exaggerated as it has mysteriously come back to life today. It could have been a problem at the ISP end I guess, as the router was refusing over the last few days to sync via LCP. However, all looks well for now, and I've dug out "ye olde spare router" just in case the D-Link goes on the blink again.

I may well upgrade to a Vigor anyway given the good experiences reported - you never know, it may just increase my link speed when MaxDSL gets switched on if it's compliant with all the latest specs. My D-Link only runs to 8Mbit whereas the DSL-524t and Vigor 2800 appear to support up to 24Mbit .

Thanks for your responses
