Has anyone else noticed just how many cerbs are for sale on ebay at the moment, I'm not sure they're meeeting their reserves, but it certainly seems to be very much a buyers market at present.

hhhmmm, 14000 miles, registered as A 3000M, showing on Dvla as being built in 1980 with 11 owners from new. No mention of service history or mot's.

I bet that's easy to get insured

Bearing in mind the new Post Office "Size Matters" campaign I love the comment that seller "will post to worldwide". Would that be next day delivery, Sir?

Most Cerbs have a high amount of owners, some people buy them expecting them to be perfect and when they realise that they are not and that they need a lot of TLC and £££s, they jump ship and move back to something less exotic and more affordable.

As time continues to go by and the prices of Cerbs drop, they become more attractive to buyers with much lower incomes, e.g. £10k can now buy an early 4.2, it doesn't matter how well looked after it has been previously, it will still need money spending on it and there is no guarantee that a clutch, diff, manifold, exhaust, starter motor, gearbox or even an engine isn't going to fail, and then there are the electrical gremlins, water leaks, brake discs and pads, tyres, petrol and other consumables that are all high cost compared to other less exotic cars for the same purchase price. Once you've factored all of the above in you can then think about upgrades............

Lots of Cerbs are being sold by owners who have had the car for less than six months, and my comments above are in most instances the reason why.

Barge and pole spring to mind. Surely just registering it as a completely different car to get around the insurance ruling that it should be for "breaking only" cannot be legal.

Yup - that's me. I've always wanted one and my savings/spare cash has now met the falling prices.

I tried to see the St Albans one last weekend as I was only 10 miles away, but I couldn't get the owner to commit to a time.

Prices for Cerb's don't seem to have crashed quite as quickly as Chimaeras. I see that my old 500 is for sale in the classifieds again, the chap that's selling has been trying to do so for well over a year! I wanted about £15K for it when I sold and it's now advertised for just over £10K!

It will be interesting/scary to see when prices bottom out on the Cerbera. I can't honestly see them falling a lot below £10K, but I guess it all depends on how desperate someone is to sell.

On a slightly different level, I watched my 300zx fall into the 'affordability' bracket, although never a really expensive car my 1990 cost me £5.5K back in 2001, now it's probabally only worth £2.5K, but as there are so few unmolested examples around now, it can only level out or even gain in value. It's such a great car that I couldn't bare to part with it for such a pityful amount.

I have no intention of selling the Cerb' and guess that when the next car comes along it will be in addition to the Cerb' So, I guess I better start looking for a quadruple garage.

Not always the case. I think a lot of Cerb owners have bought the car of their dreams and in doing so have had to make some sacrifices to have the ultimate toy. However when things go a little pearshaped such as job losses or circumstances change such as getting married, having kids, buying a new house etc the 'toy' is the first thing that goes. Moving house meant I had to sell my Cerb after just 8 months of ownership - my dream car built to my spec from new. Now 6 years on and after getting married and having kids, im back with the Cerb (incidentally the same one! Fate!). However I freelance and if I was unable to get a new contract for any length of time, the Cerb will be the first thing to go. Just the way it has to be.

yeah i have had two cerberas, so a total of 3 years cerbera ownership. doesnt matter what car i get i will only tend to keep for a year or so anyway!

So this isnt the case with me, just like a change. But i still dont know what to get.

Also the wife will not drive it, and with a second child on the way would be handy to have a second car she will drive.

BMW M3 could be an idea at least for a year or so.

***** Im holding out for a new cerb or something in its class to come out. The current TVR range just dont do it for me, they seem to wacky looking. Maybe this is a reason for a drop in TVR sales. I dont think they do one car with a V8 at the moment.

Cheers

I Just sold my 1997 Cerb - and it WAS a good one, it went for just over £12k !! I had the original invoice for it, in 1997 it cost £43,000. So when knew it was way out of the price bracket of ordinary people, it was a rich mans car, and rich men can afford to maintain and run cars like the Cerb.

As they get older, the 'poor' men can afford to purchase them , but because they are now older, thay actually cost MORE to run than they did when the rich men owned them!

They are now in the realms of "What car shall I buy now, a nearly new Mondeo, or a TVR Cerbera? I'll get the Cerbera. its cheaper"

They are starting to be purchased by the Max Power brigade, who used to buy Nova's and Civics, but know they are 25, the insurance comes down and they can afford a cerb, I've seen threads on here asking about Boot Spoliers for Cerbs - Oh my Gawd !!!.

Trouble is when it does go wrong, they cant get it fixed by there mate in the garage, cant afford a proper repair at an Indie, so they sell them.

I dont know what the answer is, but I do know it is an increasingly expensive car to maintain, it's a choice between a luxury holiday every year in the Maldives for two, or run my Cerb, at the moment it's the Cerb, but if my Engine blows, or something bad happens, I cant afford an £5k (or more) repair bill. Just take a look in Autotrader, there are some really nice cars out there for £5k.

Owning a Cerbera is a serious commitment for those of us on Normal incomes !!

Amazing - how can anyone spend so much on a cerb to effectively just sort an engine rebuild.

Anybody who's carried out a car restoration (big mistake), will know the answer.

You frequently see the likes of "E type for sale, £20,000, recently had £30,000 restoration"

I've justified Cerb ownership like this "for £16,000 there's nothing apart from a bike that will come close to the Cerb, after three years of ownership, with depreciation etc it's cost me a £1000 a month to effectively lease it."

That particular owner has no doubt spent the £20k on the repair & has now decided he either doesn't want the car or could do with the £15k.

You sort of get, mmmmm, dragged along
