Just how rare are factory 4.3 Big Valve Chims? Seems there were very few Griffs with this engine from the factory, is this the same for the Chimaera?

Don't think any were made, they made some 4.3s, but I don't think any were BVs.
Could be wrong though.

And its a conversion that quite a few people have done to the Griff, so could be the same with the Chim.

I didn't think that they made any, in which case very rare. There is a list of everything in the back of the SH bible if ou have one.

But they did make 4.0 HC's in the early days which pushed out 275bhp.

I ask as I have just bought one, advertised as a 430, when I saw the 430 BV plate on the plenum I asumed somone had stuck it on there but checking the original handbook, the car was ordered as a demo by Henley TVR and is speced as a 4.3 Big valve so looks genuine. It has cats but sounds very different to my griff 500, seems about as fast too. Bible lists it as an option on Chims.

There's someone else on here with a BV Chim - can't remember who at the moment. I'll have a search.
Isn't the rocker switch for selecting which mirror you want to twiddle?

Bear in mind that ALL Griff 500s, and I believe all 5.0 and 4.5 litre motors were Big Valves.

Is that correct? the bible indicates that the 4.3BV makes 300bhp, fairytale number I know but more than quoted for the 4.5.

Yep, and the 5 litre makes 340bhp (apparently). Maybe the 4.5s weren't BV, don't have the bible to hand.

Hi Dan/Gary and Paul,

Yep as you well know it gets driven, no point having it otherwise!

Tell you what though I got a bit of badgering to put it in for the concours thing at the Back Home event, had no chance they were looking for originality! AND deducted points for stone chips...so you would need to trailer it, nope better use it and enjoy

Thanks for the compliment, yes it is a BV but not original, had it done by Jamie of Castle Race Engines fame;
