Do you need a paint code to match up paint work

Hello,

I've just put a deposit down on a really great Cerbera, but the paint work has a fair few big chips. It's a unique colour and I'm not sure if it has an actual paint code, just the name of the special colour. Will I still be able to get someone to match up the right paint colour from the name or do I really need a paint code too?

Yep you need the code.

Some colours like Rosso Pearl are unmatchable and require full repaints.

what is the colour called? The code should be on the vin plate? (albeit they sometimes put the wrong code on !)

I need some paint for my car, so I rang the TVR factory yesterday, they put me straight through to the paint shop where I spoke for about 15 minutes to a guy called 'Gerbil' - Don't ask, thats the name he gave me -.
I didnt have the paint codes, but told him what colour the car was, and he said your 'Yeah I know that colour, paint codes should be XXXXX, you can get the paint from anywhere, but if you ring me back with the codes, I can make up an exact match for you because I have the records here of exactly how I mixed it' Apparently you can mix it to an exact COLOUR match, but the pigmentation and metallic content can vary.

What other Car manufacturer could you ring up and chat away to a guy calle Gerbil, who was the one who actually mixed the paint for your car !!

PS - I was a bit upset when he told me it was a Daihatsu colour !!

Extremely helpful.

But, alas, it's a Fiat colour!

My local motor factors made me a pot of touch up paint from the name alone - Halcyon Atlantis Blue Pearl.
Took a while to find in his book cos it was listed as Atlantis Halycon, under 'A',

It is an excellent match too......

Amazingly I got a pot of "pearl blue" mixed at Halfrauds. £8.00. Job`s a good un!
