Charging air into a V8

May be a slightly odd heading and question but there is some potential logic behind this:
On Griffs and Chimps the air pipe for the engine runs down the top of the left wing to the front of the car.
What would be the effect (good and bad) of ramming that air down under increased pressure?
The reason for the question is that there is a new bit of technology that is neither a turbo or a supercharger but delivers a charge at much lower RPM then either.

The effect would be that you would get more air into the engine. If you can arrange for the engine management system to add an appropriate amount of extra fuel you will potentially get more power. Depending how much pressure you were thinking about applying you might need to fit a rigid induction pipe that can withstand the pressure, sealed throttle body, an intercooler/charge cooler and/or water injection and the associated monitoring and/or mapped ignition and/or knock detection and/or EGT monitoring, you might need to reduce the static compression ratio, you might need to fit stronger internals, you might need to uprate the clutch, gearbox, diff, halfshafts, brakes, suspension etc etc. It depends how far you go.
Perhaps you're thinking about the multi-speed centrefugal blowers? Look at the TVR Power supercharger approach, it's very neat. Hopefully you're NOT thinking about one of those toy electric supercharger things that people are selling on ebay!
