Glastonbury Tor picture
Discussion
Ok i took a picture of the glastonbury tor on my visit there yesterday and this is what it turned out like. It is my favourite out of about 100. I had to clone out about 10 people!
Although i have a problem. I have seen many pictures with that really dramatic sky and i wanted the same so i tried using the burn tool but it didnt turn out like i had hoped. Am i using the right tool and does anybody know how i can do it properly?
Heres my attempt- please ignore the lines around the castle, this took me two minutes and i quickly, i mean really quickly used the polygonal lasso tool.

Have a look in Image->Adjustments menu and see if you have the Shadow/Highlight option in Photoshop CS, I know its in CS2 (in Elements 3 and above it can be found in Enhance->Adjust Lighting). If you have then it should do most of what you're looking for in recovering the building.
I'd recommend using the magic wand (Tolerance 30 with anti-alias and contiguous boxes ticked if present) to select the sky. Pick any bit, and click, then shift and click around to add to the selection. Once you have selected the whole sky (probably half a dozen clicks or so) you can feather the selection (much easier in the more detailed original !) and play about with it as desired. You could also select the grass in a similar manner and play about with it's colour too.
Overdone it, as usual, below to emphasize what can be done, you could even turn the path into a yellow brick road if you want !
Think I prefer Martin's version though !

im going to be brutal here.Thank-you so much but they are all horrible. I dont mean to offend anyone but they all have their problems the main one being they look fake. I just wanta dramtatic sky not a full on different style image. Again there is no nice way of saying this and i will take your comments onboard but unfortuneatly will not use them.

In your original post I saw what you were trying to do, and based on the photograph, I don't think it's possible to do what you're suggesting and still have it look good. There's only so much editing you can do to recover a photo...
