My black C6 Z06 has arrived in UK and is sitting at the showroom ... horraaaaa

Now, the problem is ... if I register it now in August I'll get an older number plate. So by the 1st Sept the car will be new but appear 6 months old, if you see what I mean.

So, do I endure the pain of waiting another 3 weeks while the summer ebbs away, or do I say 'sod it' and get it now.

I guess I could always put a personal plate on in 2007.

What would you do ???

Drive it ASAP !!! Sod the plates. No one looks at the plates on a car like that. As you say you can private plate it later.

Sad state of affairs really... the new plate system was supposed to stop this! yeah right!

Erik, the problem isn't really 'old' plate as much as resale - the silly little numbers mean so much to so many. If you're going to keep the car for 3-4 years, I'd say take it now if you really want it; however, if you'll send it on soon-ish, then I'd wait because it will make a £1-2k difference at resale time.

[or you could just let me buy it at UK price and I'll take it now ]

Either way, I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

I bought my Mazda 5 and registered it at the end of August. To be honest, it's a cosmetic thing too. I preferred 05 to 55. I similarly prefer 06 to 56. But a personal plate is a must. Can I suggest V8 OO YEA which I've often been tempted by and which is still available at the DVLA.

Out in Australia where the weather doesnt take its toll on cars and they can look as clean as the day they come from the factory they dont view plates in the same way.
I can understand that when its time for re-sale that you might make more money depending on milage and condition but i suppose youve got take into account the mileage you expect to do plus the condition that you are used to keeping cars 'in' versus the extra that is liable between the years and can you counteract it.
Mileage + condition + year plate +patience = delayed fun?
or is it
Mileage - patience +condition - year plate = instant fun?

Get it now! You might get hit by a bus tomorrow and September may turn out to be the wettest on record or something!

I could have waited until "sometime in September" for an 07, but I wasn't going to miss a month of fun and track days.

Besides, "06" is the correct plate for a Z06. Best plate I could find was CN06 VET as they don't do "Z" in the prefix bit.

Shout SOD IT very loudly

Just think, instead of playing on the internet and writing this post you could have been out there tearing up the tarmac!!!!

Go go go go. Break into the showroom if you have to - it's yours after all

Be honest, when it comes to resale, who will care what's on the plate.

Great! Looking forward to seeing another black one! Is it an 06 or an 07 model year? Wheel finish? Interior? C'mon, we need to know!

Drive it away! Mine sat in the dealership for 3-4 weeks whilst they sorted the paperwork and it nearly drove me mad (and January didn't exactly have good driving weather).

PS. take your pics before leaving the showroom Good luck with keeping black in 'showroom' condition. I've given up!
